Its one of my favorites also..the intro is perfect and then once he starts to sing it feels like a warm blanket or some kind of emotional comfort.... Then the build and back to that soft keyboard...perfect use of build up and let down in this song...i guess like he says a wave.

i cant get over how much he smiles and yet seems to be ashamed of it. trying to hide it, or the moking look he gives at 2:24 like 'i know im smiling'... how genuinely happy he looks. is it because he cant believe how good he sounds? is it because of the excitement of a rise to fame? it makes me smile every time

@ge0ffr0y Spot on. Scott Walker is a legend make no mistake. This song is without doubt one of the best of the 80s. Lyrically, fabulous. If this had some twangy guitars (which I like) and a sad lead singer story, it would be the stuff of legend. Superb. No doubt about it.

Waves, then goodbye I live in a wafer thin dream I, I can cry You know that time, time's not kind But I remember the way we were Slow, slow sad love I wonder do you miss my love I know you can't It's just a wave passing over me What are these waves? They're coming over me It must be my destiny Waves, coming by Goodbye, goodbye

Wow - some footage of long forgotten Channel 4 pop series SWITCH - presented by Graham Fletcher as seen here. VERY LITTLE footage exists of this great programme which filled in for the far more celebrated THE TUBE when the latter was on its summer breaks. SWITCH first aired in 1983 and then lasted another series in 1984 but sadly that was it. Does anybody else know more about the various presenters from that programme? It showcased some really decent stuff as well, post punk, psychobilly, electronic, the new jazz boho scene [Sade, EBTG, Animal Nightlife, Carmel] etc etc....
