hi.i just cleaned mine with paraffin last time needed screwdriver to pick gunge out.goin check again now.my 2.5tdi acv used daily.

Use decent fuel, (not supermarket) , service regularly and your intake system should stay clean enough , we have relatively good quality fuel over here, in the US/Canada where this craze started , they have terrible high sulphur content diesel…removing egr means engine takes longer to warm up which in cold climates add wear, and you’re spewing out way more soot and NOx which in this day and age is just selfish…the performance gains are so negligible on otherwise standard engines, it’s not worth it. I’ve had loads of tdis over the last 20 odd years. The reason there’s so many people carrying out this mod is because it’s incredibly easy to do.

My t4 had already been mapped, and getting a map done, if done correctly will give better power and fuel economy. In the years of doing this mod, it’s still blanked off and had no issue’s because of this. Thanks, and hope this helps 👍

Blank it off, most people put a small bolt in and clamp it with a jubilee

It's because EGR main purpose is to redirect part of exhaustion gases back to the burning chamber, which in result reduces the amount of toxic gases coming out our exhaust. But the downside is that you reduce your engine lifespan, because basically you force it to eat a part of it's shit back again. But note that the blanking is illegal almost anywhere in the world and you put yourself in a risk of not passing a periodic inspection - so it's your choice if you want to do this

Take care, you should block also the other side of the pipe. Otherwise exhaust gas will condensate in the pipe and damage everything.

Can someone tell me if this has any downside? I.e does the egr warning light come on the dash, does it make the emissions fail mot and does it make the cat overheat?

There is no warning lights on dash, it doesn’t effect mot as mine has passed many times with this mod, and are you sure you got a cat!?

I think diesels didn’t have to have a cat until 2001, you can get a cat for them but I think mine was just had a silencer, it wasn’t a cat tho.

On a separate note, are there any other seats besides t4 seats that fit in the cab?

I would recommend to only use stainless steel for blanking the EGR, because everything else (also standard St37 steel) will burn through sooner or later. And you don't wanna end up with particles sucked in the cylinders. There is no Errror Code when blanking the EGR and no dash lights comming up. It even won`t be noticed on an emissions test, because the emissions test is done on full load - and a normal working EGR valve is always closed on full load. So nobody will ever notice until inspecting the gasket between tube and EGR. Luckily it is coverd by the intercooler - so it is hard to check by only viewing in the engine bay.
