The audio sounds a lot like being there - I heard this tour in Carnegie Hall. Orchestral halls are not optimal for jazz, but these pros adapt, treating it like a call and response. Dave Holland plays with the echo at 9:40. It's all about being in the moment absolutely. For these guys, the moment has a tremendous amount of history, too. I saw Dave with Stan Getz in 1970, around the time he played with Herbie & Wayne in Miles' band.

Sounds like the audio was taped from the audience - it's got real hall reverb, makes it all very swampy. But his opening piece 'Sonrisa' is something else, I'd never seen Dave playing w/ a bow before.

My heart sank when the audio started on this 31 minute video... :(

Very modern!

No, it's not so much the acoustic that is bad about this video. It's the excessive level of digital audio compression in conversion. It has a very specific sound which manifests itself mostly in the ride cymbal sounding arse. The acoustic itself is lovely - really big sound.
@acuvox12 жыл бұрын
So nice to hear that. Nicer still if you would care to share a source for that "lovely, really big sound".

I can't believe hancock and shorter look so young
@MatSmithLondon12 жыл бұрын
A 'source' for the really big sound? I don't understand what you mean. I was just commenting on the acoustic of the space in this recording...

I'm not doubting Shorter's stardom, it's just he doesn't seem to be jelling as well as the rest

anyone have any idea how much a ticket to this cost? obviously worth it but it can't of been cheap

Amazing as always. But why there's so much reverb on everything?

Awesome music! But, audio quality is terrible. Any chance of getting it uploaded with better quality?

These "all star" things never really work, and this is no exception. There is no substitute for a regular band.
@WigridJE12 жыл бұрын
You can't be fucking serious... Blade has to be the modern Elvin Jones. Besides that you can't rank those guys anymore on that level imho.
@wallaceroneyjr12 жыл бұрын
I love Dave and Blade but they just don't seem to be on the same level as Herbie and Wayne to me...
