One of the greatest endings to one of the greatest comedies of all time. Rest in peace, Gene Wilder.

Blazing Saddles is not only a satirical masterpiece - it's also a farking brilliant movie. This scene sits up there with some of the great Hollywood endings. RIP Gene Wilder, Cleavon Little and the beautiful Madeline Khan.

The ending to this movie was so ridiculously funny when it broke the fourth wall and continued the last bits in Hollywood, but there's just something about this closing scene where the two actors get off their horses and go "Nowhere Special" in a typical car that's just so... Emotional. I don't even know how to explain it. Maybe it's the idea that the wild ride this movie took us on was really just that. A movie. And having it remind the viewers of that is hilarious, beautiful, and sad, all at the same time. It's seriously impressive how such an unserious ending could make you cry.

The remarkable thing about this scene for me, is that it really does transport me a into a feeling of that sunny afternoon in 1970s Hollywood: that's a feeling I can honestly imagine, having been born around the time this film came out, and remembering just a bit of the 70s as a result.

You have to see the Mel Brooks in Tarantino's films. Django Unchained, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood-- this ending is so inherently there already. It's a satire, comedy, drama, pop culture reference mixed into one. What a classic film.
