White really did be spoiling things. Back when Ichigo was training to control his hollow powers, White explicitly said "I AM ZANGETSU". We all just thought it was some metaphor about how he had "consumed" Old man Zangetsu in some way but he was being literal.

Old Man Zangetsu is Yhwach from 1000 years ago, so it does make sense they are somewhat different (current Yhwach having much more hatred could explain his fiercer look). Something I haven't seen people point out, when Ichigo gets the true Zangetsu from Yhwach, Ichigo surfacing is actually him "picking up" Yhwach to forge the second Zangetsu, hence why he didn't just pick the blue sword. When Ichigo reaches the forging place, Nimaiya says to him "say goodbye to Zangetsu". Ichigo saying he is fighting on his own is him accepting that Zangetsu is just his own power, Ichigo is Zangetsu. He no longer asks Zangetsu for power, since the power is already his own in the first place. He also no longer tells Zangetsu to get out of his way, since that would mean asking his own power to leave him alone. Zangetsu is part of Ichigo's soul, Zangetsu is Ichigo. That's what the ending scene means, or at least that's my interpretation of it. btw, only Shunsui and Ukitake have dual Zanpakuto in all of the Soul Society until now.

Actually Shunsui and Ukitake both have a single Zanpakuto that manifests as 2 blades. Ichigo is the only one that has two separate Zanpakuto.

@@Malevolent_Ooze That's only because Ichigo's Zanpakuto doesn't have a selead state. If it did, then it would normally only be a single blade as well.

@@theforgottenapostle1940 Shunsui has 2 swords, both identical in appearance and both sharing the same ability, thus one "zanpakuto" . Ichigo has two different swords, one contains his Hollow abilities and the other his Quincy abilities, thus 2 different "zanpakuto" I'm not a manga reader so I could be way off, but to me that seems like an important difference.

and looking back shiro/hollow ichigo has been saying things like he is zangetsu, and that he's rising to the surface, and while filler he says VERY interesting things during the zanpakuto rebellion arc. His more violent threats might not have been towards Ichigo but old man zangetsu, but Ichigo was just hearing them fight and argue and thought shiro was talking about him

I absolutely love how improved the Bleach anime has gotten! Even in the original anime there were many episodes (not including the fillers) that dragged and had bad pacing, but this season has been great EVERY EPISODE! Can't wait for Part 2!

Saw this glorious theory earlier. Old man zangetsu takes the form yuwach from 1000 years ago, around the time Yamamoto initially defeated yuwach. Interesting how ichigos initial bankai condenses all of his reiatsu into his sword in a similar way to how Yamamoto condenses all of his flames in his sword. Old man zangetsu based tensa zangetsu off of zanka no taichi. At least in function.

Or you can take it as Blue vein... Reiatsu flowing inside him to boost his defense as his mom did But taking on in a separate form to boost him defensively(physically) It's not clear but you can basically just take it that his powers manifested differently

Zangetsu's bankai state is definitely not the only one of that style to have existed. Byakuya figures it out in their first fight, and we know by this point of other zanpakuto in a similar vein.

Kensei said "master" his Bankai so Hisagi must have a Bankai, he just can't use it to its full potential. However, its not surprising IF he actually does not have a Bankai. I know it doesn't look like that but Bankai is not something that everyone can just have 🤣. Most lieutenants of this present time does not have a Bankai so the fact that Renji and Ikkaku have Bankai is actually amazing.

in the manga, Old man Zangetsu's resemblance tp Yhwach was super evident to me. what's better is in the manga, he has had the same voice actor the entire time. So anyone who has good ears and recently watched the original or even just scenes from the original before watching TYBW would've instantly gotten it.

Well... the anime screw it up with that. They literally showed him in the fight 1000 years ago and he looked just like now. Not like Zangetsu. They should have left him in shadows or something to not spoil it but not make it weird now.

Yhwach is still a normal human so maybe the flashback anime version is just before he got sealed "died" whatever and the "Zangetsu" version of him inside of Ichigo is maybe Yhwach from 1010 or 1020 years ago a slightly younger version of him before the final fight against the Shinigami's because remember that "Tensa Zangetsu" is a even younger version of Yhwach from 1000 years ago maybe 1030 years ago... Is obviously his design changes slightly depending on his age.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think Oh Etsu was implying that because of his quincy powers he was able to manifest his powers in the image of a zanpakuto like how the quincies seem to conjure whatever their weapons are instead of having an actual zanpakuto from his powers imprinting on an asauchi? I do understand that his hollow powers and his soul reaper powers are the same because when he was born White fused with the soul reaper powers he inherited from his dad, but I guess if there if more to his quincy powers I'll either have to wait for the next season or read ahead. Either way I loved it, I don't care how cheesy it was, I loved the final to the first part of TYBW!

True, but Yamamoto just looked old and young. Zangetsus voice changed and a thousand years later he doesn’t really look older just looks different in the face. Also I’m the past with Yamamoto Yhwach doesn’t look like Zangetsu. I think he’s just supposed to look similar without instantly giving it away when we first meet Yhwach. I’m honestly not trying to fight it or anything. I’m probably just huffing some copium since I couldn’t figure it out 😂😂

@@FreshestAnime The current Yhwach is bulkier with a bit more aging chubbiness to his face as if he was in his 40s while "Zangetsu" is slimmer as if he is in his 30s. - The same horizontal slit eyes, the nose is slightly bigger with current Yhwach (nose getting a bit more pronounced with age is common) - The same kind of lips albeit a bit bulkier with current Yhwach (lips getting a bit more pronounced with age is common just like Ichigo's mom did) - The mouth appears only wider with current Yhwach due to a difference of expressions because he is often sporting a smile or smirk, while "Zangestus" was sulking. - Same diagonal face scars/marks/lines but less obvious with "Zangetsu"'s glasses. - Yhwach has a long mutton chops with mustach, while "Zangestsu" has a 5 o'clock shadow badly shaven beard. It's fine not noticing the resemblance due to the few differences with the outlandish way "Zangestu" was clothed with and his sulky attitude you would never catch Yhwach with, but they do look like the same person at different point in life which is what he is supposed to look like.

@@logandelaharpe6362 he was talking about the Zankupakuto rebellion arc When Muramasa tried to pull Ichigo's shinigami power source out, but Bachgetsu was acting as the surface Zankupakuto so he got pulled out but when Muramasa couldn't figure why Ichigo shinigami power still functioned like normal, he went inside Ichigo soul and found the Hollow and when asked who and why is there a Hollow inside a Soul Reaper Ichigo He basically answered and not answered that he is Zangetsu, Ichigo shinigami source

To be fair, Uryu has in filler joined an opposing side as a means of taking it down from the inside. Based on the knowledge that we get at the end of Episode 12, it certainly wouldn't be out of character for Uryu to be pulling a similar tactic.

The scene from 1000 years ago where Yhwach invades the soul society is a new added scene in the anime. That part was never in the manga. Oh and by the way Old man Zangetsus voice/actor was always the same
