So we've already done the bastard pack lift on the rear but before we lift the front of the Jeep, there are a few things I'd like to discuss. In this video, I'll explain the differences in front and rear lifts and go over the required components. I'll also show you how I plan to get 3.5 inches of lift on the front of the Bleepin Zombie Build Jeep Cherokee.

Just got done installing my first lift on a 97 XJ. I went with a skyjacker 3 inch kit with the hydro shocks and new leaf packs vs. the add-a-leaf. Did everything with hand tools and a cheater bar... it was such an amazing learning experience and I'm glad I did the work myself. Everything you've touched on in this video is super important to take into consideration when attempting any type of lift. Its because of videos and channels like yours that I was able to do it for myself!

I have 3.5in tuff country coils and I have been running the stock T-bar for over a year, it's not ideal, but it works. I simply drilled the axle mount over about 3/4-1in and bolted it back up and the front end was almost perfect. I finally decided to spend some money and bought a Ironman4x4 double-sheer trackbar with bracket. Can't wait!

the ZJ tie rod will be fine. when buying a used modified rig sometimes its hard to tell what they have done already. if they haven't added a longer track bar then your axle is going to be off center and ya, you need a longer or adjustable track bar. 1 -2 inch drop on the pitman arm should be about right for a 4.5 inch lift.

+BleepinJeep First I would like to say Thank you, your vids are completely helpful and I enjoy them. I have a question and hope to hear from you. I just purchased a 3" Jeep Series II Sus. lift kit from Rough Country and steering stabilizer. I understand I need to get a longer brakes lines. I plan to purchase after market wheels (for 31x10.50 tires), my question is will I still need to purchase 1.5" wheel spacers from rough country? and do I need to purchase 4 of them or just for the front. This is my first time taking this challenge and I have all tools and a garage to work in. The Jeep is a 98 XJ and it's for my son. Also could you recommend some black steel wheels or specific steel wheel specs, not crazy because of limited budget. Thank you Sir and look forward to you next vid.

I busted my tcase on my 01 doing just a drop. 3" lift on a 2001 NEEDS sye, rear drive shaft, brake lines, lower control arms, bump stops, shocks, extended links and UPPER CONTROL ARMS if you want your alignment to be good and street safe. The 3" full leaf rough county lift did not come with uppers and it would not align properly. I had to get some upper adjustable arms. If it's a trail rig, do whatever makes you happy , but if you flex, you will rip your stock brake hoses off. My jeep steers just fine without a drop pitman and adjustable track bar but is recommended. 50k miles on it like this, no problems. Daily driver and 50k on the cheapest general grabbers. No cupping on tires and still have half my tread.

I know you said your lift sizes for parts needed where just guess's but from what I've head from friends and read on forums. and SYE or T-Case drop is almost 100% needed after 4.5 if not 3.5. Thanks again for the videos. I bought a 1998 XJ with a 6" lift on 33s a few months back. I haven't noticed any vibes in the driveline at any speeds, so it looks like the pinion angle is set up correctly. Whoever did the lift just welded a small extension in the stock drive shaft to account for the lift though, so it still has the stock slip yoke. I have flexed the jeep pretty good a few times and have never noticed any drive shaft binding. I have the NP242 transfer case, so I was thinking of doing the hack-n-tap SYE kit and buying a used front drive shaft for the back. Do you think this is really necessary given that I'm not getting any vibes? Just not sure it's worth it to spend the money. My concern is whether or not this setup puts enough extra stress on the transfer case output shaft to jack up my t-case.

Hey Matt, what's happenin. Finally decided on a rig. Found a younger gentleman on CL looking to get out of "the game". 99 with 160k. Brand new 31x10.5, 4.5 rough country lift with an ADD leaf and shackles, coils, shocks, drop sway bar connects, transfer case spacers, Tube lower control fronts. Now I am looking to start where he left off. I was looking at some budget build lists and found the ZJ tie rod and sleeve upgrade but wasn't sure if having 4.5 lift still applies to me.
