⭐⭐⭐⭐ Curtis, good video as usual. I use Vaseline to protect my front hairline, plus I also apply it to the top of my ears, & back of my neck, & around the edge of my beard & mustache, to make sure I don't get any color stain. Having said that, if I get any stain on my skin I take care of it with "WIPE OFF" hair color remover sheet you can get it at any "Sally Beauty" store, and it comes with 50 sheets which last for a long time.

I bleached my unit about a month ago. Initially I foiled it on a mannequin head, but it didn’t lighten nearly the way that natural hair would, probably because of the color locking that’s done to it as noted in a previous comment. I ended up bleaching the whole thing and processing it several times. I did get it to lighten significantly, but really fried it I think. It shed a lot after that, but it’s still hanging in there and looking nice. Since I name all of them, this one’s now the “Zack Morris”, from ‘Saved by the Bell’, lol. I found a fantastic spray-on, leave in conditioner that has really softened it and made it look shiny and healthy again, and doesn’t deactivate my bond, which is always a concern with conditioners- it’s Biolage Smooth Shine Milk moisturizing shine spray. Really fantastic product, highly recommended. I enjoy finding products that make it look great and extend the life of the unit that also work with the bond. One detangler spray I bought previously was so heavy and greasy that I actually now use it to remove bond from the unit when I do my maintenance changes. That one is Kevin Murphy Un.Tangled leave in conditioner and detangler. Definitely not something to use on a bond you wanna keep, but helpful to remove adhesive while also being good for the hair itself. No lie, yesterday after my haircut getting the sides faded up, I was walking into a store and a guy with a male pattern baldness hairline like my natural one was walking out, and he said to me “I wish I could go back to the days when I had hair like you do…” it was my turn at the register, so I couldn’t spread the gospel of My Hair Experience to him, but I so wanted to tell him he could have it, and reveal my rear section of bond to prove it. I love letting people know that if they’re willing to learn and put in some work, they can have a full head of hair again whenever they want.

In my opinion, the shade of the system wasn't the problem with it not matching the bio hair. I think it was the tone. It had gone quite red. A neutralising shampoo and/or conditioner would probably have been less risky, removed the brassy tone and gotten the same results. The other thing about Just For Men is that it remains active until it is washed off. You could use one of their blond dyes and if you left it on long enough, it would eventually turn the hair black. Non store bought dyes stop being active when they've reached the colour they're marketed as being. Because system hair is so processed, it can really suck up dyes and react much faster than bio hair would. So whatever you use, you have to be FAST! Doing a strand test is HIGHLY recommended.

Just used back2natural on my unit and it worked like a charm. I’ve found that it doesn’t really stain the unit and gets rid of those brassy tones

Hair systems are generally color locked because all of the Chinese companies use black hair; they bleach it, dye it and color lock it to keep it from fading. So it doesn't color like regular hair. What I do is dye my hair to match the system; and I do it when the system is off. If you dye your hair and the system with the same dye you won't get the same resulting color because your gray hair will take more color than the system. The just for men stuff is really only designed to dye your gray hair; I actually bleach and then color because my systems are a bit lighter than my natural hair; but it you're gray enough the gray hair will take the JFM color and it will look very good as long as the JFM color matches your system color.
@zguitarmaster2 жыл бұрын
I was trying to use the JFM on the system and bio hair at the same time to get a good color match. Are you saying this won’t work ?
@bradmoran52292 жыл бұрын

I would like to darken my system which has 40% gray but I want to keep the gray is that a possibility?
@Jw4be3 ай бұрын
My stylist said the exact same thing. Also it is way easier to just color the sides and back and just rub it in basically since it’s fairly short either way. So you don’t have to be too careful too. Alsooooo just don’t strain the hair from the system and everything that makes my system last longer I would love to do 😂

Yes!!! I really needed this video. I have a system that’s in great shape just needs a little touch up to reduce brassiness.

Cool vid and nicely done. The only advice I would add is that if you really want to stretch the life of the unit as long as possible, I would recommend using a professional grade Demi dye like Matrix or Redken etc instead of Just for men since it’s less damaging to the hair. I really like that brush that comes with the just for men dye though, it’s definitely a nice touch. I would like to find one compatible with other dye if anyone knows where to get one please let me know

Great video/tutorial. Now I know the best way to tint. Mine is a bit lighter, but so far I am diggin it. I went with the undercut hair style so my sides are so short they do not show any difference in color. For a hair dresser they need to work harder to do it, but for us is super easy. Just trim down our hair to as short as a trimmer will go, almost shaved. Then lay down the unit on top of that and boom, undercut sides. My back I leave full length, so no difference in color there either. Might need a bit longer sides than yours.

Hi Curtis, I’m looking for a way to darken my unit with 40% gray while leaving the gray intact. Because of the gray being synthetic I am hoping the gray will not except the color but the human hair will. Have you had any experience with this? If so, was it a success and what products did you use?

i dont recommend to dive your hair that way, why>? cause you can not really dive correctly the roots , look his front line is completly orange, thats going to be really hard to fix, get your hair system out clean it, cover all the bottom side of the base with hair conditioner, ( this will stop the dive to go trough and change the color of the base) now with a dive brush apply your dive all over really quick, the hair will change the color really fast but on uniform manner , cut some of your real hair and compare the color, once you are sure is same color, rinse really quick theh you will get an identical match, he did it totally wrong
