Nice website also. You could do a video of modeling the catapult and capturing the movement for referencing the action.

You can use Pure ref for references, you should try it out its very good. Also to place the origin where you want like in the center of the mesh, you can press "W" which brings up a the Object Context Menu in which you can set the origins position, note if you have left click selection than the menu can be brought by "Right clicking".

Thank you for the suggestion, I am already a fan of PureRef:) [ www.pureref.com/ ] I would've used it, but I set my screencapture software to record the Blender window only (to avoid capturing notifications and other things), so PureRef wouldn't have been captured. Also, I wanted to show how to preview a single image with Blender's built in image viewer. However, for anyone else who needs to manage multiple reference images, this is an excellent tool!

❓ Thank you for the video! I would like to know about stones (cannonballs). Are you planning a continuation of the tutorial, which will simulate the flight of a projectile? Or does it already exist somewhere?

Tried using an additional Empty and parenting it to the middle of the launcher.. then adding a UV sphere as a projectile and hooking it to the Empty using the hook modifier. The sphere follows the tail end of the rope where I hooked it.. but getting it to detach and keep the momentum of the throwing arm is eluding me. Ive tried rigid body dynamic animation keyframes + key framing the hooks influence on the sphere at the same time the rope should be letting go of the sphere.. but cloth physics mixed with rigid body physics can be super unreliable it seems. You should do a follow up where you actually launch something and show us the way!

I made a trebuchet in Blender one time but I never could get the cloth rope to work right. So I just used the stick/lever to toss the projectile.

when doing something like this for my games trebuchet would I bake the animation and then bring it into substance painter to get all the maps sorted? and then just build out the materials in engine?

I'm not sure if I can really contribute anything to the existing population of "Blender Fundamentals" tutorials, not unless I can come up with something really unique. So we'll see, but I don't have anything planned right now. Thank you for your suggestion and support! :)

How to throw some objects from sling? I parented constraints from cloth to an empty object, then I "child of" ball to empty obejct, and in viewport it works, animation works, but after render, the ball is still in place, but after 40 frames, when "child of" influence is 0, ball teleport to the place where in viewport trebuchet is throwing ball. So the problem is, that ball isn't following empty in render but it's following it in viewport. Is there anything to do, to use this trebuchet to throw something?

Can make a slingshot physics I modelled a slingshot but I don't jnow how to simulate the rubber of the slow Slingshot
@WintermuteDigital4 жыл бұрын
That is an interesting problem. I think the cloth simulation in Blender can account for an elasticity through its system of internal springs. I'll look into it, as I'll probably make another of these siege engine tutorials later. Ref: docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/physics/cloth/settings/physical_properties.html I highly suggest you experiment with it and maybe you'll learn something new! That's how I come up with the ideas for these tutorials :)

Good video but for the rope the best way is to use a simple line with multiple vertex and add a skin modifier and a sofbody modifier look on my channel it's in french but i have a lot of tutorial about dynamic rope and cable with different technique.

Normally I would scale on a single axis by pressing s followed by x,y, or z. However, at 1:00, it seems that you didn't press x,y or z but got the same effect. Is that right? If so, how did you do that?
@WintermuteDigital3 жыл бұрын
I did the same, the keyboard visualizer seems to behave unpredictably with multiple keypresses and I will take a look. Good catch!

But can a catapult throw a 90kg projectile 300 yards? (Seriously though a series on siege engine physics would be pretty fun!)

Nice idee of tutorial BUT it laks pedagoy: You assume that everybody is knowing exactly what you are doing. You skipped the detail of setting rigid body parameters, a scripted step by step tutorial video with more preparation and postprocessing , some subtitles and plain english will help better. Please dont talk like you are talking to yourself you are talking to the whole Planet. Anyway, Thank you for your help.

Thank you for this awful tutorial where you go too fast and don't explain what you are clicking. Thank you for making me waste a lot of time. FYI a tutorial is meant for someone who DOES NOT KNOW how to do a thing.

Hello Friend, do you want me to explain how to install blender in every tutorial? You see, I have to make some assumption as to your baseline of knowledge in each tutorial and I'm sorry if you can't follow along but I refuse to make my tutorials two hours long to make sure 'everyone' understands what every button does. I will not assume my audience is made of brainless babies. If there's anything you don't understand, ask it respectfully and I'm glad to help, or someone else can explain, but you have to realize that I can't make a video for every skill level. If you're totally lost, you'll have to start learning somewhere else. Good luck!
