Here is a new Blender 2.8 video in which I do a morphing from one object into another one (Suzanne) using Shapekeys.
It was a kind of test of shape keys and the Shrinkwrap Modifier work in Blender 2.8 and in this video you can see that they work very well.
In the next one I will export the animation that I created using shape keys to a game engine like Unity.

Thanks for this, very helpful! Is there a way to use this if you want to change shapes twice? For example to turn a square into a ball, then from a ball into a cone? I'd like to animate something in that kind of way, is it possible with shape keys? Thanks.

That's not possible without distorting the result.

I don't think blender supports creating new verticies in animation. I could be wrong though

Is this a good method for creating growing plant animation ? , specially cause the leaves will have different colors and i want them to not show that on the stem

When I try with meshes like yours everything is fine. But when I try with some more complicated meshes, when I use the Join as shapes, blender says that the meshes must have the same number of vertices. Why? Please tell me...

I managed to grow a smaller version into a bigger version (while maintaining the wall thickness of the smaller version), but now i would like to make it grow from the base of the object instead of having it grow from the center, but how? UPDATE: I managed to do this by moving the pivot to the base of my objects before performing the steps in your tutorial

I like your tutorial, but we are on version 3 now. When you set the second set of key frames at frame 60 you press "I" for insert key frames and you select "All channels". I don't see that option nor have I seen that option in previous versions of Blender. How can I do that in version 3. As is even though set the key frame values to 0 and 1 the animation does not occur, I suspect because the appropriate channels are not being applied. Would love you help on this.

Instead of the next step being exporting, could you do this with a textured character?? i have this idea of having a character model start very skinny and after gaining levels or woking out (tentatively in 5 stages) he becomes a muscular character model. But im worried that the shrinkwrap modifier is gonna mess up the textures or details of the models

Is there a way to bake this sort of mesh deformation animation? I'm trying to inflate a jellyfish, so I put a Cast modifier with a Sphere and keyframed it from the rest position to an inflated position, but I don't know how to bake it. I'd like to export the two frames (rested and inflated) into Unity and then interpolate bewteen the two, or just export the whole animation with the mesh deforming each frame (30 frames in my case).

If you have the value at half way, is there a way to take the shape key off and the object stay at the halfway point? The reason that I am asking is because I did this, and I want to joint multiple objects but when I do they all revert back to the way they were at 0 value.

@@omartamer426 shape 1 was normal unsmashed car, shape 2 i deformed it in sculpt mode and animated between them. then when it hit a wall i animated key frames to show car crashing and smashing. works great!

Do you know how we can mass load classes now? The old method doesnt work and i read that you now need to make a list of all classes and than run a loop. Im wondering how i would need to load all classes in from other py files. I did read something that there was a special branch which has the old part so you could easliy mass load classes again. I dont know how to build BLender though,

ok shape keys are messing with my brain x_X i got a character with a rig, that is in a A pose but when i into edit mode it switches to a T pose, which i dont want. so how can i apply the A pose? when i go to modifiers it says i cant apply because shape keys.

Hi! Great content man! I am working on a small project that involves importing an stl file of misaligned teeth into blender, segmenting them and realigning them. For accuracy, I need to import an image of a curve into the blender background over a set of misaligned teeth then aligning them accurately along the curve. So far I have managed to segment the teeth, realign and animate them, but having a challenge using shape keys to get the gums to move accordingly with the teeth.The surrounding tissue, the gums, should be deformed to adapt to the new form of the jaw and tooth position. Use record button of timeline, first set shape key value to 0 at frame 0, now move the timeline slider to 60 or whatever and change the shape key value to 1. Hope it will work

@@rajendrameena150 this is the only way to animate it but I figured out that in 2.8 if you remove a keyframe of shape keys the values get corrupted and you can't manipulate them any more ... soooo ...NEVER remove a keyframe .. just set the value to 0

you're just interpolating between 2 vectors for every vertex, its not very expensive. less so than skeletal animation, when you think about it
