Really happy to see someone in the Blender community talking about making movies and story structure!

Love the folder structure, one suggestion (as someone with experience in regular filmmaking) is I always add my shots too. So a folder structure for that might be Scene 1A_Shot 1A. Main reason is it just adds more flexibility could be the same Scene setup but I want to add a closeup of the character, rather than make a separate scene called 1B I can just make it the 2nd shot for Scene 1A. It probably isn't a "must do" thing for smaller scripts/stories but when pushing longer production it's always been helpful. Also an easy way to allow yourself to add movement shots for a scene as well.

Thank you for this lookout video, a lot of the time people attempt to scale a project or short film to the extent to be PERFECT, but retrospectively you want to be conservative and learn as you go. Additionally, short films are a great way to train all of your skills in one piece.

Very good tips. And Milenote is also great. In less then 5 minutes I could jot an idea that I had this morning.

I use Scrivener and Milanote a lot. If it wasn't for Milanote, I wouldn't be able to storyboard with the freedom I have now, from videogame mechanics and concepts to prototyping levels, maps, stages, dialogues... So many things! Notion also helps me to keep things neatly organised, but I use it mostly because of the airtables it has, and that one is completely for free (and because of the embeds I can't do in Scrivener). That's my personal "Wiki" for everything involving the lore behind the story. I plan to create the characters and all the other assets in Blender but to use them in UE5. Your tips were useful though and I took notes directly in my Milanote project for all the tutorials and tips I find 🤣

That's... basically just the Hero's Journey with a different name slapped on it. Explicitly going out of your way to follow that outline is a surefire way to make your story feel very paint-by-numbers by reducing it to a series of tropes. It's checking off boxes.
@TDPlayz2 жыл бұрын
im guessing it's just a guideline for anybody starting out without ideas but yeah.. i think people will start to notice when every beginner short film is the exact same plot with different characters (+ the entire pre-production part felt like a setup for the sponsor)

Yeah I agree, but I also see the value in learning this fundamental story structure. In my film school it was a very clear distinction between the people who spent a couple projects learning the fundamentals and forcing themselves to write in these “tropes” and the people who refused and decided to do their own thing for all of film school. One group could understand how to build off that and make it interesting in their own ways and the other group just fell into perpetual “experimental” stories since they didn’t know how to actually write things to keep the audiences interest😂

It's kind of a double-edged sword, really. Learning the archetypal story structure is great to start out, you just can't let yourself become obsessed with it or fall into the belief that it's a rule, because it isn't. Once you learn and understand the basic structure of a functional story, you can figure out where it can be changed and restructured in order to tell the story YOU want to tell.

I find that when using the non-linear animation clips, the transitions aren't smooth. Do you have any tips on that?

I am having an absolutely vicious time trying to figure something out and I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. Very simple. I want to adjust the f curves on all the scale channels of an object at once so they all have the same easing. When I select the keyframe it seems to pick just one channel (at random even) so I have to adjust the X-Y-Z scales individually. I MUST be doing something very basic wrong but I cannot find anything on this. Thanks in advance.

I want to do linking instead of appending, but when I append something I can't even move it from the world center, which is very unusable. Anyone knows how to solve that problem?
@dmitryvolkov71782 жыл бұрын
I think you need “make library overwrite” or something sound like this
