The Basics of Blender Lighting for Beginners
Lighting in a Blender scene is important to get your render or animation perfect. This beginner lighting tutorial covers the fundamentals of lighting a scene. We will look at the four lamp types in Blender, HDRI lighting, IES lights and using emissive materials to light a scene. I'll sprinkle in several Blender lighting tips along the way.
Our options to add (or even subtract) light to a Blender scene isn't limited to point, sun, spot and area lights. Global illumination with HDRIs, precision lighting with IES files and even Blender's new light groups are all tools to have in your lighting toolbox.

I wasn't aware you could enter a negative value for a light source's power and have it absorb lighting from that area of the scene. That awesome! Thanks for the great video Brandon! I hope you have a fantastic week! 😃

Hey guy from California - I don't know if it's you or Blender but this content is great. There's a ton to learn in Blender and your videos are incredibly helpful. I especially like the pacing and information density. I almost made it to the halfway point of this video before I spent the rest of they day exploring the sun setting. Linking to your other videos is also very much appreciated. And for some more good news: KZbin thinks your channel was worth promoting to me. I've already subscribed and look forward to what you publish in the future. Only nitpick is to keep reminding us of the basics -- yes, "adjust it by hitting s" is good but "adjust it with the standard scale tool by hitting s" would be better. And "shift-T" must mean something ... target? Figuring out how to find what where is so overwhelming when getting started, especially for us non-artists. Learning that objects have different properties depending on which render engine is selected explains some problems I've seen. This adds even more complexity to an already complex program. On that note, I get it now but I would recommend reminding people how to change the render engine because it matters so much to what you're talking about here, and it is non-obvious to newbies. Thanks!

Hey! I really appreciate all of that feedback. It's a tough decision to know just how far to break it down - but I'll keep that in mind. Thank you so much and I hope it was helpful overall. Take care!

@@Brandon-3D Just wanted to say that I've watched a bunch of your videos now and they're all really great. I hope my previous reply didn't come across as too critical. I'd say you're making the right editorial decisions at least 95% of the time. It may be even more and I just don't appreciate how those little gaps force me to question, experiment, and learn. Thanks again!
