Motion graphics can be expensive and difficult to make, but Blender has some incredible and easy-to-use tools to make lots of motion graphics effects. This tutorial goes over the some methods to make five motion graphics effects, and summarizes the fundamental ideas for making more.
-- Effects --
- Animated Rings
- Animated Motion Trains
- Animated Starbursts
- Bar Scene Transition
- Panel Split Scene Transition
--- Thanks for watching! --
NOTE: Please make sure you have the BOOLTOOLS addon installed. This is a very important aspect of the tutorial, and it should be installed by default, but if it's not, go to the Blender User Preferences, then Addons, and enable BoolTools.

For a tutorial that you can read (on my new website!), check out wintermutedigital.com/post/motion-gfx-0/. Cheers! And stay safe everyone.

alas, that leaves me with even more questions now that I read it. Maybe label your tutorials clearly as "NOT FOR BEGINNERS". You expect so much knowledge of Blender its very confusing for someone trying something new to solve a motion graphic problem. A true step by step would be nice. But thank you for this anyways. I ll do my best to work through it

Hey, good one. Yesterday night i saw the post on my phone and was like: yeeeha tomorrow all is solved. But over night and sleep i figured it must be working with the light path? I think it will obstruct everything behind it right? I'll try it out in a minute. :)

I always render animations to image sequence first, then into mp4. Perhaps you could look into the video export settings, particularly things like resolution and bitrate, to make sure it doesn't get too large.

A tip to activate the single vertex option is to activate in the add on ExtraObjects, because if you do it with a single point, it will be awful and the boolean will not recognize it...

This took forever for me to figure out: once I added the booltool modifier at 1:12, the animation got really funky. This got solved once I switched the option from Exact to Fast in the booltool modifier (it was Exact as a default). Thank you for a great tutorial, learned a lot!

A helpful tip/reminder for noobies: Extruding a Vert has to be done in EDIT mode AND in VERT mode. You try extruding in Edge or face mode, you will get an extrusion operation interface popping up, but not much clue as to where the vert is.

The quick bool tool doesn't seem to want to work properly in the lastest version of Blender. For the first one I ended up adding the boolean modifier to the object set to intersect, fast, object: vert. In order to get the wireframe you select your vert object and go to the object properties panel. Under Viewport Display select Wireframe from the drop down menu. I also hid the wireframe object from the viewport and render but I don't know if that'll mess up my animation when I'm finished with it.

I need to create some motion graphics for a project I'm working on. Was maybe going to bite the bullet and pay for After Effects (and I certainly would have if it wasn't a subscription payment :/), but it seems like with a little more effort it is possible to do everything I need in Blender!! Truly an amazing piece of software.

Suggestion for people using the Panel Transition effect: parent the Empty (or Empties) to the Camera. This is specifically for people who use the Panel Transition in the same cut as a particular scene, so you don't have to record in Orthographic top-down, among other things.
