actually, I can't agree with most comments. maybe, I do not fully understand the concept, but I personally have been using another, way faster method for IK FK snapping: 1. set the pose in desired mode 2. select all the bones (or only the bones of affected chains) 3. apply visual transform to pose 4. keyframe target chain (whole character (selected only) or just rotation for FK/location for IK) 5. swith the mode 6. enjoy.

Could you do a short demo video? Because I’m not sure of what you are explaining. Also I think you assume the Ik chain and controller is aligned with the FK in rest pose. What about the pole target ?

@@PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN true, they are aligned in the rest pose in my rigs. the pole target has to be either moved manually or I also tried to parent it to the IK controller (mostly works, but free alignment gives more freedom). actually, I saw this method in some other tutorials, not especially dedicated to the switching concept. I could make a note to record a demo of all necessary

I also found this method, but this method is still flawed. That is, when switching from fk back to ik, there will be a slight movement due to the polar direction.

Wow, baking out the fk animations to ik constraints is super powerful. I’m looking for a way to have both ik and fk bones active within an animation (the follow each other depending which one your controlling), and animate both seemlessly without having to toggle any switch. Is this even possible?

I finished did the 'art of effective rigging course' and now i'm struggling with the 'Trident-rig from the Alive! course' because of that, trying my best but i really hope that i'm the problem here. Coming from 3DSmax, the snapping makes no sens to me. It require me 3x the amount of clicks + some brain gymnastic to do something as simple as IK/FK switching. I'm trying real hard to not to get mad at Blender animation system, but that's just so tedious. Why does it not 'snap by default'or hide/unhide unusable IK/FK controllers? These are just extra steps.

I totally agree! As another animator transitioning from 3DS Max to Blender, I used CAT rigs all the time which literally came with a "Match IK and FK" button built into the rig, and even considering having to construct a whole other rig just for the IK, let alone 2 more rig copies to track the keyframed transformations seems extremely intimidating. XD

@@SkywardWarriorCosplaygamer after a year of production in blender and maya with other experienced animators and tech artists that makes custom rig tools, i finaly have the answer! The solution is....... animators use the ik/fk switch as less as possible, and if they must us it, they complains and do their best. 3dsmax biped switch is just superior, yes the whole system is buggy, some features are missing, it's limited, .. but the Ik/fk switch is superior. HumanIk is a solid maya alternative tho but other than that, there's no easy solution, sorry.

@@kordaling No! Haha, that's okay, thanks for the info though. It's such a shame too, since it seems like the industry is trying to phase out using Max at all, and Autodesk won't even make any useful updates to the rigging systems. It's probably because they want to favor Maya as their proprietary animation tool instead, which is a real letdown for those who learned on and are paying for Max.

@@SkywardWarriorCosplaygamer yes Maya is there focus right now, it's a good software, but until they add a ground breaking feature that really sets them appart, learning blender is the smart way to go in my opinion, especially for the price. I'v learned everything i know from P2design. You can also learn both and then choose wich one do you prefer. But yea, very sadly the old rusty 3dsmax boat is sinking, we have to let it go.

I converted the legs animation from FK to IK, after making corrections, I want it to come back to FK again. I add Copy Transform to bone so it moves like I want. And Bake it. I remove the Copy Transform and the bone just stands like a peg and the Graph Editor shows a flat horizontal line.

You don’t need to script anything. As soon as you create a custom property on the bone. It will appear in the property panel when the bone is selected.

Hi pierrick, Im having trouble linking up the target bones and the fk/ik mechanisms in the armature setup with four bones per limb. Whenever I add the constraints from the ik and fk chain to the target chain in the leg and try to move the foot it is either buggy or doesn't move at all. What can I do to fix this?

Great Work i have applied the same procedure on my character but i am having problems with *hand* and *foot* *rotation.* Every thing works well except *hand* and *foot rotation* Any Solutions? My Issue is related to *hand Parent* because when i am in *FK mode hands* need to be parented to *Forearm* and when i am in *IK Mode hands* need to be parented to *Hand IK* so when i am trying to bake my *FK Animation to IK* i am having these problems

I've seen a tutorial by Lee from CGMasters, with far less hussle just parenting, constrains and an influence slider for FK/IK swap. This one is a lot more work but works better for mocap data? Do I understand right?

Yes that could work indeed but the child of constraint can lacke of consistency. I never use it. You could then bake the chain for mocap but you would have to delete the constraint afterward

Il ne faut pas décompresser le zip. Tu vas dans addon, Install from file, et tu sélectionnes le zip directement
