For anyone who started with this video first, the render engine has to be set to Cycles, not Eevee, to see the pointiness in the renderer. Great tutorial, Jayanam.

Great tutorial. It would be nice to know why you select the options that you do (for example at 3:42, why do you select the emit option?). I know it's amateur, but it would help some of us. Thanks :)

I connected the Emission (the glow of the material) to the color output to display the curvature (pointiness) as greyscale and this is what I want to bake.

I can't find viewer node in blender 4.2. For people like me, It seems that adding an emission shader node can completely replace the viewer node and achieve the exact same function.

Is that possible to create curvature map without high poly model
@elsaelsa8863 Жыл бұрын
can someone please tell me what is curvature map is and why we should use it
@kruz3d5734 жыл бұрын
Hi Jayanam, When I attempt to bake the curvature map after adding the ColorRamp, My mesh is just pure black. And I'm using the subd modeling technique to crease or harden the edges for my high-poly objects. Yes, I switched to Cycles for the Render Engine, but nothing seems to work after I connect the pointiness socket into the ColorRamp node's factor and SHIFT+CTRL+Left-Click nothing my object is just pure black and no edges are being shown on the object. Any solutions for this? I'm using Blender 2.91 stable version.
@obiforcemaster2 жыл бұрын
If you're seeing black after applying the geometry and viewer nodes, make sure you have the high poly model selected and not the low poly. I had the low poly selected and was perplexed why nothing was changing, but when I noticed I had the wrong model selected and then selected the correct one, all was well.

@@obiforcemaster Damn, thank you for the help, but now this is almost 2 years ago, I switched to Marmoset for my bakings. wouldn't normalizing the pointiness work better than using a color ramp? good tutorial otherwise though
@JayAnAm4 жыл бұрын
I dont think it is even possible to really normalize the pointiness (you mean to range of 0..1?) cause cycles would have to find a minimum and maxium first and then recalculate for evey point. But of course there are many ways to create a curvature... also the bevel node could be intersting for this e.g. in combination with the geomerties normals... have to try this.

@@Al1987ac however I had much more success plugging the resulting bake into the compositor and normalizing it there than trying to normalize it in the shader editor, so i'd recommend doing that instead
@johnrossporter34394 жыл бұрын
Why does this have to be so complicated? You'd think they'd want to make a little easier to bake a curvature map.
