Advecting points through vector fields is often handy for different purposes. It can be used to visualize noise fields or vector volumes or just to create some beautiful abstracted graphics. Follow Manuel in this tutorial, while he hacks Geometry Nodes to make iterative advection along vectors possible.

Super cool tutorial. I learned a lot. But a small thing: Instead of using the "Vector Math: Multiply" node in combination with a float value node, you can just use the "Vector Math: Scale" Node :)

Great video. Just one thing: from my experience it actually executes faster if you instead reptetivly extrude verticies (only the last of each line/top from previous extrusion) because this way the vector field only has to be evaluated on the last point of each line instead of at each point greater than the current loop iteration.

Brilliant, whenever you go through these things, i finally get it :D, you sir, You know how to teach :D. i was wondering if this could somehow be adapted to grow along side a curve or empty objects, to give more control and perhaps wrap around other objects, grow into letters perhaps etc. a bit like line drawing particles controlled by curves and force fields :)

Great tut! One question: how would you add random radius to the curve mesh? tried some options but failed. thanks
@Fleck2011
@Fleck2011 Жыл бұрын
There is a Set Curve Radius node, which you have to apply before the Curve to Mesh node. You can plug a noise texture or something like that in its radius input
@diegosaldiva
@diegosaldiva Жыл бұрын
@@Fleck2011 thanks a lot! I've added the SCR Node between the Curves To Mesh and the Geometry Group Node but I still need an input in the Profile Curve, which I left the being the Curve Circle (which has its radius). Then used a Noise or a Random Value Node in the input of the SCR but all I get is the radius changing along the curve instead of having the individual curves with individual radius. Sorry, sounds messy.
@Fleck2011
@Fleck2011 Жыл бұрын
@@diegosaldiva Random float value doesn't work because it's only a single global value, not an attribute-like thing that changes along geometry. You can leave the Profile Curve being the Curve Circle with Radius 1. Only control the radius of Set Curve Radius with a noise texture. And as I said, the Set curve radius has to be before the Curve to Mesh node. Hope this helps :)
@diegosaldiva
@diegosaldiva Жыл бұрын
@@Fleck2011 thanks. I can only manage to change the radius along the curve (like a jagged curve), but my intent was to have consistent radius along the curve but different radius individually. Thanks for your time anyway.

Hi Manuel I am really grateful for the knowledge you share with us I am a motion designer and heavy Blender user trying to hop on the Houdini train Any directions and tips danke.
@Entagma
@Entagma Жыл бұрын
Hi Jamal. Well, I'd say learn Geometry Nodes as thoroughly as you can, as the concepts are very similar to the ones inside of Houdini. Especially look at the "Named Attribute" nodes. These are the equivalent to attributes in Hou. Once you feel familiar with nodes and math, look at the GUI of Houdini and try to recreate the setups you did in Blender over there. In the beginning concentrate on SOPs and VOPs and export your Geo to Cycles for rendering.

I just finished a tutorial by Khamurai (kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqjUnYuQmZmbiqc) where he explained how to create a seamless loop using "scene time seconds" in geometry nodes. You just have to use the formula (Total Frames = FPS x 2 x Pi). It turned out quite well in his tutorial. I plan on doing your tutorial tomorrow. It looks exciting. Thanks.

You should have just use accumulate node. this tutorial is quite wrong. Before making tutorials, you should start by learning geometry node.
@Entagma
@Entagma Жыл бұрын
Oh interesting. How can this be achieved with the accumulate node? It accumulates the vectors sampled from the noise. But here the next point only knows where to sample the noise when moved by the vector sampled at the previous points position.
@vincentsommthing
@vincentsommthing Жыл бұрын
That still requires knowing what value the noise field will evaluate to at each point though. The accumulate node just accumulates the values if you already know them.
