I get a weird shame when I target the head inside the shrinkwrap modifier for the eyebrow. I make a plane somewhat rectangle on the correct position just like you do, but when I target the head, is gives a weird small Triangle shape on it. Any idea why? And how to fix that? I'm following along, but for my purposes my model has a few more subdivisions on it. I was wondering how do you get/maintain perfectly smooth surfaces (especially on organic shapes)? Although my model has more subdivisions for detail, I still want it to have a animated/cartoon look about it.
@KeelanJon Жыл бұрын
Hi Karl, thanks for the comment. To help keep a smooth surface I'd mainly recommend keeping your poly count as low as possible to start, and the only adding in larger amounts when you're done with the main base of your model. That way it's a little easier to maintain as you go along. If you're looking to animate afterwards, you'll need to retopologise your sculpt so that it's better optimised. Hope that helps 😁🙌
@karlmoore1837 Жыл бұрын
@@KeelanJon Thanks. So, something like the multires modifier should help manage that? I have tried to keep things simple. I've noticed as I've gone along with more complex poses and detailed sculpts that some parts/areas of the surface have got a bit bumpy.

Question for anyone who is watching: In the brows segment can't I just use the first shrinkwrap modifier without applying it or is it some type of artistic trick for better result?

You don't have to, I just find it works better for placement 😁 But every model is different so see what works best for you

would u prefere modeling or scupting for this style of character? im not sure but can it be u only used modeling in ur older videos?
@KeelanJon Жыл бұрын
In my personal work I generally use modeling, but sculpting is still useful in many ways for details which can be baked into lower poly models 😁

I come from a game development background and have started learning modelling / sculpting. Could you perhaps point me in the direction of where to go from this point. Maybe im reading it wrong but 876 thousand tris for a very simple head that lacks any minor detail has me extremely worried as to just how "good" I need to get before I can even import something like this into unity. How exactly would you get something like this down to say 200,000 tris to be lenient without compromising anything in the overall design of the model. Just to be clear idk if that many tris is normal for something that is staying local to blender. I personally am learning to sculpt for game assets. An example would be most overwatch characters averaging around 60k tris and that's for an entire character not just the head .
@KeelanJon Жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for the question 😁 Having upwards of a couple million tris on a sculpt is normal, and the amount of detail you require will reflect on your tri count. In the case of this simple model you likely don't need to go this high, but it's down to the Artist and their preference. From a game design stand point you would not sculpt a model with 60k faces, you would sculpt a very high tri model and then retopologise to simplify the geometry and then the higher poly model details can be "baked" into a normal map for lower poly version. That's generally how games work to avoid high poly count models, the details are faked with a normal map.
@zekenebel Жыл бұрын
@@KeelanJon okay I understand , so when sculpting it’s kinda just do what u need until u get the result you want them re topology best you can until you get a good blend of quality and performance
@KeelanJon Жыл бұрын
@@zekenebel Yes exactly 😁 If it's a model for a game, you would need to go through those optimising steps of retopologising etc. But I'd also note that in my case I generally 3D print my models/figures and this does not require the model to be optimised. So depending on your use case, retopology is not always required.
