Other comments have said this...but this is agency-professional level quality. And lots of tutorials, while awesome and cool, don't have that level of design to them. Across the board for years now the quality of your output has been top notch like this. 👏🏽

Absolutely love this tutorial! Quick question though: I have an elevation map that I would like to use instead of randomly generated Noise Texutre...is there a way to properly replace the Noise Texture Node with so i can use the image instead?

I am trying to do the same thing! Did you get it to work?

For this I just connected an image texture node to the LESS THAN math node. The problem is that for some reason it only maps the image in ¼ of the plane

Hey! Its an amazing process.. is there a way to improve the geometry node and render speed? I have a not-so-slow rtx pc but it looks nothing like the video, any change in nodes or the timeline and it takes forever.. even considering im leaving only the lines...

Nice tutorial! I dont quiet get the speed of the points on the curve? They are still moving way to fast no matter how much I divide the seconds by?

6:47 Also, to create lines you could remove edges with neighbor faces count == 0 OR >= 2.

what are you using to make the slides that explain it and to make the overlays and to video edit. I think it was really nice.
@Chong3D2 жыл бұрын
I am using Adobe Illustrator to create all those slides, and import it into premiere pro to combine it with the video. But Illustrator is not free, so if you are looking for free alternative, you can try to download Inkscape, Inkscape is open source and free to use

here's my guess right away before i try this myself, raytracing to snap curves to surface... but im not sure how to make sure every hill is covered...
@Chong3D2 жыл бұрын
You mean "Raycast"? No, i didn't use any Raycast or Proximity, that might be another approach that i haven't explore😅
@DerWavezz2 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what i tried so that i can use my own geometry as base and not the noise texture. Snapping with raydirection to center of mesh works, but only in some edge-cases like you said. The only possible way to achieve the same result as in the video was through mesh booleans, which works, but it's unusable because it's so slow. I had another idea floating around: find local peaks and valleys, spawn mesh line in Z direction at the lowest point of every peak/valley found and instance circle curves on the points. Then try the curve snapping way again. I have not thought it through, but i have a bad feeling about that one too. There has to be a more clever way.

@@DerWavezz im glad someone other than me is thinking about this, I thought I was the only one bothered enough to try to figure it out

@@Kavukamari hey, sorry for answering so late. So I’ve got another idea which worked for 3/4 of the way. I created a 3D point Grid encapsuling the whole custom mesh (just get the bounding box size), transfer Attribute the position of the mesh and do a check, which points of the point grid are the closest to the mesh. This way we can „slice“ the mesh on the Z axis, just like we want, depending on the count of given Z points. With a compare (less than/equal) you can kinda get close to only getting the topography lines, just in „point cloud“ form. You can then merge by distance, to get rid of the clustered points. The missing puzzle piece is to connect the points, so we can convert them to a curve. The problem is, that the points/vertices are not sorted, which makes the connecting part really tedious, couldn’t wrap my head around it. Maybe this gives you a good starting point, and if you solve it, let me know! Cheers
@Kavukamari2 жыл бұрын
@@DerWavezz i really like that idea, theres not really good solutions right now for connecting disconnected vertices i think, but it might be solvable

Simple remove interior edges with neighbor faces count>1.

When you are adding math node (Not) at 10:21 and having problem that why everything disappeared. Then just change math node (less than) to integer and b value to 4. I hope this comment helped you. ❤️

Hm... Is it possible to create slices with curves, or ngons? To avoid those broken edges? Something like this in c4d (done with voronoi fracture): kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYrHfmVtrNuKbLc
@DanielPartzsch2 жыл бұрын
I guess, you could try to convert the edges to curves, then subdivide them and/or convert them to nurbs or bezier curves to smooth them and afterwards convert them back to a mesh with the fill curve node before the extrusion. You could then as well use the curves directly within the first node tree for all the curves and instancing points on curves etc. I'd problaly also start with a grid node in the first place instead of the plane that is subdivided a million times. This way and without the need for the smooth modifiers I guess Performance will improve as well.
