What I really appreciate about these is that it's a genuine look into how a small studio operates instead of the "entrepreneurial" style some other people use, to deliver this kind of content. While your studio is certainly just as stressful as any other company in the business it feels very authentic and like a place where creativity has room to breath and isn't suffocated by a hustle culture mindset. Just for that alone I love that you do this. It does a lot to represent the creative world!

I love these videos, they really showcase how much is possible with blender with a bit of ingenuity. The on-the-fly shapekeys and sticky-GP for lighting adjustments would be key selling points of a standalone NPR render engine, but here it's some just internal tooling made to make artists' lives easier. Love this team, keep up the great work!

I can see a lot of the style of Titmouse's work in this... Not saying anybody copied anything, just saying I could see a studio like Titmouse totally lean into this type of animation for some of their stuff. When costs and time goes down, they can produce more, and take more creative chances with their art. Love the direction Blender is going!

That's great! It looks way more organic than most of the 3D attempts at a 2D look I've seen. Fantastic work here! I've been working on NPR, and when I watched some 2D Gobelins projects like Colza, Sundown, and The Alchemists, I noticed they didn't use character shadows -cel shading - but it still works perfectly. I'm going to try some tests without cel shading shadows too and focus more on the animation itself. I'm doing everything solo, so planning is key.

When there's a need for this much manual work in terms of adding lines and sculpting individual frames, is it still advantageous to base this off 3D?
@pablofournier866417 сағат бұрын
well depends, after finishing it I learnt a lot, and I believe I can make the process less complex, but, if you want it to look 2d you need to do some manual work, because some artistic choices need to be done, and blender doesn't know how to do that.

This is soooo cool!! Making something look 2.D is so difficult. I which there was more about how to get the look. I am making a 2.D hybrid animation and still struggle with making the 3D match the 2d look. There needs to be more tutorials out there if there are. 😊 I to model the buildings on my set and then just paint over them. A lot of work but that’s been my workaround to get the hybrid look.
@Cartoonfixstudios4 күн бұрын
When you did paint over for the background buildings. 2:59, did you do the simple building renderings from the camera view and then paint over these? Sorry. I just want to learn more haha!
@pablofournier86644 күн бұрын
The backgrounds are oversized render from the camera view of a 3d background and later Vivian did the drawovers and later we proyected them on some planes. Check the studio website (link in the description) if you want to see the whole process from beginning till end
@Cartoonfixstudios4 күн бұрын
@@pablofournier8664thank you so much for the feedback. I usually oversized my background renders 4K is this still the best approach?
@pablofournier86644 күн бұрын
@@Cartoonfixstudios when I said oversize I meant overscan (basically I took the camera movement and we rendered pass that movement, so al the animation will be with that background render). For the resolution of that rendered background image I'm not really sure, but 4k sounds good

So grease pencil is basically a 3d model with 2d texture? I thought it was plain 2d
@pablofournier86644 күн бұрын
Grease pencil is 2d, but in blender is an object you can place in space. In this case, we projected the 2d into the 3d mesh. You can see the hole process in the studio website (link in description), I wrote a hole article about the process
Can this 2D be done faster in Moho or toon boom harmony?

@@Thats_Cool_Jack So? Blender have something like Cascadeur that assists with Character animation. That could give productions with "Miraculous Ladybug" like budget Arcane-like quality in terms of character animation. AI in art doesn't have to be generative like Stable Diffusion. Blender already uses AI in denoising.
