Should I make a fluid simulation and geometry node tutorial next? Edit: I forgot to mention you need to be in 3.0 not 2.93. You won't be able to add the geometry nodes to the volume if you don't use 3.0. Also thanks again to Skillshare for sponsoring the video! When i try to put the "Volume to mesh" node my program is force closing. Any advice?

Sadly, I have the same issue. So, someone with solution?
@nicerdude64203 жыл бұрын
@@Botix4 For this tutorial i would recommend using Blender 2.93. So, after you imported OpenVDB, you have to use a cube to add the volume to mesh. That means, you have to add a cube to the scene, add the 'volume to mesh' modifier in the modifier panel on the cube and then in the 'object' you have to select 'fluid_data_0001'. Drag the threshhold down to 0.001 and set the name to 'flame'. Now you can follow along with the tutorial without using the Volume to Mesh geometry node. :)

I use blender 3.0 and it crashes while I add volume to mesh node, I downloaded 2.93 and added it there, then I cannot find pount instance and attribute separate nodes. If I try to do the same in 2.93, the nodes are there but simulation itself doesnt work. So the tutorial is unrepeatable

Yes I forgot to mention that you need to use 3.0 to add geo nodes to the volume.
@nekok41913 жыл бұрын
I think with 2.92 there's a workaround. Instead of adding GeoNodes to a volume, first you convert the volume to mesh using Volume To Mesh modifier on any geometry (default cube will do). Then you do geometry nodes and do everything the same except for the first VolumeToMesh node that's only available in 3.0
@monarchblack30042 жыл бұрын
Much better said than in the comments below. I am using 3.3.1 and this is still necessary, to prevent crashing.

Besides the theoretical possibility of being able to import vdb to geometry nodes, why should I do it? What are the possibilities that I have with GN that I can’t achieve by importing vdb without GN?

I have a question, when I go to add the 'volume to mesh' node in the geometry node (Blender 3.0), the 'density' attribute isn't there to adjust it just says threshold and adaptivity, but I see it in your video. Any suggestions?
@mayhemcrue47423 жыл бұрын
I'm having the same issue actually
@chavis28763 жыл бұрын
I found a solution. After you bake the fire and the vdb files are created, create a fluid data object, importing all the vdb files you created for each frame. Then create a cube mesh and use the volume to mesh modifier on the cube, using the fluid data object as your target. After that modifier, you can use geometry nodes on the cube. You can change the GRID NAME in the volume-to-mesh modifier to different things like he says in the video

@@chavis2876 Thank you for replying! I'm sort of new to blender; what is a fluid data object, and how would I create it?

In object mode you can use shift+a to add a volume -> import openvdb and grab your vbd files
