@jakefriesenjake
@jakefriesenjake 2 жыл бұрын
@@waynewilliams5802 I think blender is put on where the new clear coat ends. If you didn't use blender, and just stoped the clear coat in the spot, then there would be a a line, or some dry overspray that wouldn't stick, or you could see where the new clear ended. Blender melts the old clear coat, into the new coat you just sprayed. No blender needed on the blow in of the base coat because it got 2 full coats of clear, going straight to the end of the panal.

When you say 5000 that is referring to 5000 grit sandpaper correct? 5000 on the far right side over to the left where your non clear coated side is you're about to clear coat. So when you add clear coat there will be a little that dont get touched because your 5000 grit sandpaper section is that wall between where your clear coat is and where clear coat isnt and the blender will tie it all together?

Gabriel Merino Maybe there is massive difference between the spray can clear and the clear in a can. Even at the transition point of the blending , when the clear dries , within that boundary it’s rough and matte. I don’t think that’s prep ; maybe it’s the quality of the clear ? Would you wet sand this over the counter clear ?

Plastic adhesion promoter is to help bonding to problem plastics. You are not spraying onto problem plastic, you are spraying onto existing clear coat.

Hey what a coincidence I needed to see this it’s very helpful and great timing of this video being posted. I have to do a blow in today from a burn through I did yesterday trying to remove a small tap line from overspray that went further under my soft edge than I had planned on! I took you’re advice and just went out there and just started spraying for my first time with a spray gun and ended up respraying the front bumper and side view mirror only twice but resprayed the hood and two front fenders 4 times and ended up learning so much especially cause I had my girlfriend record me so I could go back and watch each coat to see what I was doing that needed to be changed and it helped so much! I tiger striped the hood the first two times spraying a silver metallic for first time probably didn’t help but the I realized I was not holding gun at a 90 degree angle when spraying the hood and I fixed it on third spray and wayla no more tiger stripes but I went tacked the side fender and then went to tack the hood and smeared the paint cause t wasn’t dry haha so that’s why I had to respray a 4th time but I’m thankful because I got a lot of practice! Thanks for all you’re knowledge and help!

Ppg always try’s to bullsit there way out of warranty anything. I know I used it for 17 years. They bring new clears out like crazy! And I believe they don’t test them long enough before releasing. In Az I had clear failure with 88, 2001, NCT, 2020 and a few others. Millage was perfect. And they wanted to give a gallon of clear for payment! After switching to Sikkens’s 16 years ago I have had 3 clear failures. And they cut a check for labor and materials. No bullshitting. Hopefully PPG has improved there clearcoat durability 😊

Gabriel, please enlighten me, this blender is it just thinner? Like the regular blenders we use on the guns? There aren't any blenders that come in these cans around here in Brazil.

Not sure if you are interested in the more technical part of things. I did a fast check on the Safety Datasheet of the spot blender you are using and a fast research on the key chemicals used on it. It seems it is just a thinner, doesn't seem to have any other clear or so type component, At first I thought it might be diferent than a blender thinner, since its name is "spot blender" vs some other are called "fade-out thinner" but it seems all of them are fade-out thinners, and their basic funcion is to fade out the overspray generated by the application. Am I right? Saludos!

The blenders are just "hot" solvents. Anyways, I use just plain jane Medium Reducer in a seperate gun to spray the blend area. It works better than most of the blenders that come in the can. Use the Medium reducer as well to blend into a single stage paint. Did it on an old corvette and blew my boss away. Good luck

Very informative video, Gabriel. Thank you. You always get pro results. I'm going to try similar fix, but clear coat and blend scare me. :D If it looks ok from 3 feet away, I'll be happy.

Such an amazing channel brotha.👍🏼👍🏼 what’s been your experience on how long those blow outs last? My pop and I were thinking of offering spot painting, but we live in a small town and I worry about it not holding up very long? I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
