Frenzy - Everything You Need To Know About Marvel's Toughest Black Woman!

I'm a big fan of Frenzy. I've always appreciated her powers, her rage, and her growth over the years. I've been following her stories since the 90's when she was an Acolyte. She's been in my top 10 X-men list for years. Even though she was more of a background henchman back in the day like many of her fellow Acolytes, Frenzy was introduced with an uncommon amount of nuance to her characterization. Frenzy was passionate, angry, and outspoken in regards to the injustices towards Mutant-kind and greatly admired her hero--Magneto. In addition to that, Frenzy expressed a very clear fascination with Scott Summers early on in her portrayal. This affinity towards Scott would eventually lead to powerful and, unfortunately for Frenzy, unrequited romantic feelings. After some years pass, we get some more context to who Frenzy is. The Age of X event saw Frenzy adopting a new look and heroic role as well as a relationship with Cyclops. Even though Legion returned everyone to factory settings, Frenzy wanted to keep her memories from that alternate reality. She greatly valued the feeling it was to be a true hero and also wanted to hold on to her memories with Scott. These experiences inspired her to become a full-fledged member of the X-men where we see her struggle admirably to adjust to Professor Xavier's values as an X-man. In Avengers vs X-men, we also get to see a single issue expound on her tragic childhood. Frenzy was a victim of domestic violence at the hands of her father. When she was pushed to the brink, her powers emerged resulting in her father's death. Given her tragic backstory, it's not hard to understand where Frenzy's immeasurable rage comes from. I've always found her to be a rather relatable character. Especially since we see her aspire to change for the better, and commit to her goals. Frenzy's characterization in SWORD has piqued my interest in that, Frenzy is historically an emotional and volatile character. She is known for her rage and lacks delicacy when it comes to discourse and discussion. Now she's a full-fledged diplomat. While it may seem inconsistent, she had, previously, established relations with Inhumans during the Terrigen Mist story arc--which can be considered a feat in diplomacy. She's also, somehow, very disappointed with Magneto. The reason why is a bit unclear, but I can speculate as to how Magneto falls short. SWORD 1 & 2, overall, have demonstrated how much Frenzy has grown. She's no longer this angry and violent superhuman bruiser. She's smarter, more experienced, and far more methodical. She doesn't force things anymore, she instead waits to see how things unfold. Having followed her story for so long, I definitely recognize her growth as a character. Though she hasn't been used to her full potential, she will always be one of my favorite X-men.

Now I can see Frenzy and Gambit together. It'll be a diss to Rogue, but Rogue can go on without Gambit and move further io popularity on her own. Now frenzy can match martial arts skills with Gambit on street and omega level and I kinda like Frenzy's style in street tactics! She was a part of anoter team of mutants who fought and took the X-MEN to the limit, one of her team mates was named Tower, he was a giant that stood 30 ft. tall! Frenzy and tower almost spuashed Wolverine until he dogded their attempt!

Frenzy is one of those characters who despite her ties to Magneto and others has always been a background character. She has potential, like most characters however since Storm has been the defacto black woman on the xmen...she's always been pushed to the sidelines. Now, that she's in the Sword title..I hope she gets some shine but the large cast of characters make that an iffy issue. I would love to see her developed but If this Sword run doesn't do something major with her...shell be back in mutant limbo

I got my hands on her first appearance when she was part or Apokolypse' Alliance of Evil, and remember that she seemed to have a bit of depth that made her seem to stand out from the others. Justice, from the New Warriors > Avengers also accidentally killed his physically abusive father in self defense, with his mutant powers. Considering how differently they dealt with it, they'd probably have interestingly different perspectives, if they met and discussed it. Justice turned himself in and still caught anti-mutant fallout. I imagine Frenzy would get even more if her situation became public knowledge. PS: But is Frenzy THE toughest Black woman Marvel character? Maybe in terms of muscular physicality. But overall? Let's not discount Photon.

Dope upload on my b-day. Thank you, Ernie! Frenzy's one of my top favorite mutants. About her eyes being a "Weakness", I'm not quite sure about that. I think that was more of a writer and or artist error. She's been attacked in multiple ways like Cyclop's optic beam and Jeans telekinetic beam (at the same time) to the face and Havok's plasma blast without a hitch. Not to mention, internal microwave and direct electrocution attacks to the skull, have no effect on her. This can be seen in her fight with Omega Sentinel. The end result was Omega Sentinel getting beat into scrap metal. Magneto used a surgical laser to injure her brain. It didn't blind her. From my personal experiences, surgical lasers seem non-life threatening or powerful enough to cause the damage that was done to someone like, Frenzy, who is equally as durable internally as she is externally. My ex underwent in-office surgical laser treatment on her right eye after surgery and we were in and out in minutes. She said it made her eye itch a little. Also, Northstar and Aurora failed to take down, Frenzy, inside of a S.H.I.E.L.D helicarrier after she knocked out Rogue and beat the crap out of Mystique. The twins attempted to help Mystique and used one of their iconic attacks when holding hands to produce a powerful light burst that only pushed, Frenzy, back and left her skin smoking. They were shocked by how durable she was and Mystique told them something along the lines that she was nearly indestructible. As a result, Mystique caught her off guard with a flying kick that sent, Joanna, out a shattered helicarrier window. Battlefield removal was the only way they could stop her. Note: "When Aurora and Northstar are in contact with each other, usually by holding hands, they can also vary the rate of acceleration of their molecules to release a cascade of photons creating a momentary burst of light equal to one million candela which they use to blind their opponents." I'm a fan of, Joanna Cargill. I could keep writing about her capabilities and feats, but I'll come to an end saying, she's an underdog. If you think she can't do something, she proves that she can. An editor once said they believe her "Primary power" is actually "Her will". Her will is as durable as her entire body. One last thing, a lot of people associate Frenzy's codename with rage. She doesn't use rage in combat. She's incredibly intelligent, well learned, a capable leader, mentor, and of course very diplomatic. Yes, she can be brash, but that comes from her loyalty and or beliefs in something. She goes all out for what she believes in. In combat, Frenzy uses "Red Rage"; a technique she learned to hone in the military that allows her to survive every and all missions. Rage is generated for survival in combat while simultaneously maintaining your composure. It's explained in her solo issue.

I've always loved Frenzy, even when she was a villain. I was disappointed when Jean mind-controlled her to temporarily join her rag-tag band of X-Men. I felt like Frenzy finally joining the X-Men should've been a huge moment...one that should've been Frenzy's CHOICE. That being said, she is FANTASTIC during her X-Men Legacy run, and really deserves to be a main character on an X-team. I look forward to seeing her in the big leagues again in the S.W.O.R.D book.

I believe Frenzy will gain that Rogue and Storm friendship with Storm and I believe Marvel should make that happen. Frenzy needs stability and growth and what way to get than with a permanent BFF loyal bond to Storm. Storm is the perfect embodiment of black female power on many aspects and Frenzy is needing to fill that emptiness in her life as a living being. I saw where she wanted to step in and defend Storm’s absence/tardiness when Storm was summoned to battle for the seat. They need a personal adventure and experience to build their trust, bond and sisterhood much like Callisto and Storm has now. Storm needs a healing factor and a nigh-indestructible defense and maybe she and Frenzy might have a friendly hand-to-hand battle from time-to-time like Dtorm has with Gambit. Frenzy may lose but it’s them learning each other and building that teamwork knowledge.

Frenzy seems like an awesome character! I kind of wish she was on the ballot for the Vote of X event. She would have had my boat in a heartbeat. Plus I love my strong woman so that's a Plus! She's a protagonist in SWORD. The issue with putting her on the ballot means that she'd have to leave her current team in the event that she gets the most votes. I actually want to see what Ewing can do with Frenzy as an intergalactic Krakoan diplomat. If you haven't read the series yet, I'd heavily recommend that you do. Frenzy hasn't gotten too much attention yet, but I feel that Ewing is building her up to have a conflict with Magneto and Fabian.

I like Frenzy. She’s always trying to find a place where she believes she can do good. Makes sense that she’d join the good side. I will say that I liked when she would go around with Nekra. I mean, both of them are super strong black women who actively (Nekra maybe not so conscious when she followed Mandrill but was at least willing to follow Grim Reaper) followed some rather awful men. Specifically, Mandril, Grim Reaper, Fabian Cortez and Exodus. I know Frenzy was a follower of Magneto but Fabian and Exodus were the ones who made her think their bad interpretations of him were correct. Plus, they’re two characters that may have started as the stereotype but eventually got fleshed out and more dimensions added.
