I am today years old finding out about Bling!. She seems like a cool character I might look into. Dont really have a problem with her name its unique in its one way. But her parents rap names Jesus Christ! They could have done better. That lets me know their was no melanin input on this characters orgin what so ever. But I digress. It is what it is. Bling! seems to be one of those characters that on the surface you can't help but think "Who approved this?" But when you give her a chance she actually has a lot of substance to her. Now honestly, the only thing that really bugs me is she's basically Blue Ivy, without being Jay Z and Beyonce, who I'm pretty sure exist in the Marvel Universe, child. That said, I have a feeling if she was in Milestone Universe in the 90's when they first got started, she probably would've been a good what if they did maybe

I think you might be a little off about her creation. in that era of x men, long lists of random mutants were the norm and I'm sure most of the academy x style cast were quickly made without the intention of taking seriously. That being said, I'm sure there was a "what do we call the black one?" conversation at some point.

Milligan has done some TRULY great work, and perhaps he created her, intending to have her join his X-Force/X-Statix, because ONLY then would something so cringeworthy be allowed to play out. Her story is much more compelling now that i hear it a decade later, as a whole, and perhaps a new codename WOULD provide a cleaner slate.

With the King in Black event and what's currently going on with the Mutants. It will be highly dumb of the writers to have normal humans of earth to just go back to hating mutants after the day was save by them and super powered humans in a joint effort. I would hope they go a different way cause to this where the world make laws to full protect mutants but their are still organizations out their that won't play ball.

Entertaining and informative as usual, love your work BUT...I just can't get behind this character. Hard eye roll when I first heard about her name, background, and parents names. Clearly it wasn't one of us who created her. It's as bad as having yet another black character that came from poverty, abuse, or a life of crime. She's the kid of rappers. Smh. Her powers make her similar to Emma Frost and Penance but with no real original abilities or compelling character development. Being a lesbian doesn't cut it. It just seems like every character has genius level intellect and above average hand to hand combat skills. I get that the latter can come from training but a lot of these characters are losing their individuality. Surprised she doesn't have a "healing factor" too. Another power that has been overused. If any mutant should have lost their powers after M Day, it should have been this one. I can't imagine why she didn't except for maybe being that forgettable.
