I totally understand Mike's frustration. He's right that just putting any great games to play on Playstation on the "best playstation games" is a slap to the face to all the playstation exclusives that helped shape the brand for 30 years. There were so many higher spots that could have been for the more beloved niche PS games but let's just put Balders gate/Portal and Doom on there just because they are popular on all consoles.

If Monster Hunter World is going to be on this list it deserves to be way way higher than 83 that is utter nonsense. EDIT: MGSV is an incredible game and the story is great its just unfinished. The Truth is one of the best moments in the entire series. People just be hating. But I also think its fine where its at on the list. Mike saying Destiny 1 over 2 is ludicrous. The worst take I've heard from him lol. Also, PlayStation had marketing rights to Destiny for a long time and I think the D1 alpha was exclusive to PlayStation. Black Flag was the first PS4 game I played because it was a launch title. Definitely deserves a spot IMO. Commenting this at 59 and their discussion: I dont think MGS4 is on the list. Journey is in my personal top 10. Its an amazing experience that IMO transcends what most games set out to accomplish. A true work of art on the level of Shadow of the Colossus, I think Crash in general kinda sucks and I don't know why people revere it so much. Mario 64 should have made Crash Bandicoot dead in the water as a concept. FF9 is a fan-favorite Final Fantasy but I don't think its as good as most FF fans do (and I say that as someone who's been a fan of FInal Fantasy all my life. For this list I think you see X, XI, XIV, Tactics and VII above it. (I was wrong about XI and XIV but with both being very tied to PlayStation I thought theyd be a part.) Arkham City is the best Arkham game and is great. I don't necessarily associate it with PlayStation though, but I'm fine with the placement. No way is Spider-man 1 better than 2. The gameplay in 2 is leagues better and the story is just as good if not better. Miles is above it IMO because its a more focused experience and the story if the best. The Mary Jane missions in 2 are incredible compared to 1 thought and its not even close. It made me want a game based on MJ. GTA 3 is similar to Mario 64 in how it changed gaming but its been surpassed a million times over. Its fine at 50. That said, Demon's Souls is the same way. I probably wouldn't put it on my list but it deserves an honorable mention. Chrono Cross shouldn't be on the list (unless games like Legend of Mana, Lunar and Xenogears are also on the list because they're better. Guitar Hero 3 was the peak of that genre. Its fine where its at. To be fair Titanfall 2 is probably the best FPS ever. The issue is if they have an FPS above it lol. Mass Effect 2 I associate with PlayStation cause I played it there lol I didnt play ME1 til the compilation release recently. Ragnarok > 2018 to me, but part of that is how much Ragnarok just buillds on 2018 it almost feels like a gigantic expansion. P5 Royal took Persona 5 from an "ok" game to a masterpiece for me. P5 felt like an incomplete story when I played it originally and P5 Royal fixes that. I don't play scary games but most people I think would put Silent Hill 2 on this list and it was originally a PS2 game. Witcher 3 is not a "Playstation" game but its so good it deserves a spot lol. If I was making a top 10 PlayStation games I think SOTN would be in my top 5. It deserves this spot. TLOU2 is my number one PlayStation game, period. What a great game. RE2 above TLOU2 is ludicrous by any metric.

Black Flag ran at 1080p on PS4 and ran at 900p on Xbox One. It was the definitive console to play it on which is why they prob included it. Also Bless says Crash came out when they didn't know how to do 3d platformers because Mario64 wasn't born yet, but Mario64 [June 1996] came out 3 months before Crash [Sept 1996]. Also Mike said the GTA OG trilogy is better than GTA4, but don't forget that the 3rd highest rated Metacritic game ever, is GTA4.

I don't have a problem with the 3rd party Fromsoft and Rockstar games being on the list since I associate Playstation with those companies. But there are many others that just seem inexcusable. This probably isn't exhaustive, but games that don't belong on the list as they don't make you think primarily PS: Third Party Games not associated with a platform: Batman Arkham City, the Witcher 3, Destiny, AC4: Black Flag, The Walking Dead, Guitar Hero 3, Dishonored 2, CoD 4: Modern Warfare, RE4 and 2 Remakes. Games that make you think PC first: Doom Eternal, Portal 2, Baldur's Gate 3. Games that make you think Xbox first: Mass Effect 2, Titanfall 2. Games that could replace those that fit the criteria better: OG RE2/3, Ico, The Last Guardian, Uncharted 3/1, Sly Cooper 2/3, Crash 2/3, a couple of the older Ratchet and Clanks, Twisted Metal Black, Ace Combat 4, Resistance 1/2/3, Infamous 1/2/Second Son, Death Stranding, Marvel Spider Man 1/Miles Morales, God of War 3/1, Horizon Forbidden West, Detroit: Become Human.

The ranking of the games is subjective which is of course all good (I mean it's fun to debate about what belongs where but ultimately it's fine), but their criteria didn't have to be subjective. They could have said exclusives only or as long as it's playable on playstation it counts. Instead they went with, "when you think of the game, do you see a PS banner at the top of its box", which is so subjective it's an individual feeling. I'm not actually mad as it's just a fun list and I appreciate that IGN made it at all to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Playstation, but they could've done better.

I'm saying their criteria is unclear and doesn't do as good a job as it could at achieving their perceived goal of celebrating Playstation's 30th anniversary by celebrating Playstation games. And moreso I'm poking holes with how some of their selections don't even meet their own criteria they set. Sure, I can conceive a person thinking Playstation first when thinking about Baldur's Gate or Portal 2 because that is completely subjective so in the strongest logical sense it's okay for them to be on the list, but the common sense thought is that those are PC first games. And Portal 2 is a top 5 game of all time for me, but that's irrelevant. I'd have no problem with them being on the list if they said their criteria was "can you play the game on a playstation" but they did this to themselves by saying you think Playstation when you picture the game. It's all good though like I said it's a fun list and I appreciate it being made. And for the most part it does do a phenomenal job at highlighting Playststion games. It's just some games don't make sense being on there based on the criteria they set for themselves. I look forward to Blessing's list if he ever makes one.

Destiny 1 had a lot of PS exclusives. Not just cosmetics, but quests, weapons, strikes, maps. It took years for some of that content to come to Xbox players. If you weren't playing Destiny on PlayStation, you weren't getting the full experience of the game. That was the sentiment of a lot of non-PS players in the Destiny community at the time.

Demon's Souls is one of my all time favorite games and absolutely set the foundation for genre defining mechanics that games are still taking today. But even with that, There's no way it's ahead of GTA 3. GTA 3 did that genre defining mission on a way more significant scale.

Heres a hot take. As much as i like the marvels spiderman games, i dont think they are better than the arkham games, but this is coming from someone who focuses more on combat than story. Traversing, yeah, ill give that to spiderman, but fighting, thats batman hands down. I even prefer the gadgets over spidermans. The advantage spiderman has over batman are the suit powers. Other than that i definitely prefer batman arkham to spiderman. As far as this list, its wild lol 😅.

To put in perspective how insane this list is... Sly Cooper is not on this list. Batman Arkham City is. Infamous is not on this list. Titanfall 2 is. The one Ratchet and Clank entry is at 93. Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag is 60. Heavy Rain isn't on this list. Until Dawn isn't on this list. Pro Evolution Soccer IS on this list. To all the sickos saying that Spider-Man 1 is better than 2, come on guys. Sure, the story might be a bit more emotional and more focused, but all the abilities you can use in SP2, the inclusion of Miles, the Symbiote Suit, the much better MJ missions, the what is probably best depiciton of Venom in any medium yet, and heck you can actually play as him! It's difficult to go back to SP1 once you get used to having a wingsuit.
