Might not have been best for the sds but I used to do internet installs for a telecoms company and the company policy was to drill inside to the outside, wasn't allowed to do the opposite so the way I managed to minimise blowing out the bricks would be to set the sds in between the drill and sds mode and vary the setting as I was drilling so that it would only slightly hammer and not at full strength. Sounds more like a rattle than the hammer mode. Doubt it did the drill any good and I'm sure someone will ratify in the comments but had the same one for 2 years and worked fine the whole time I had it. Was a makita so your mileage may vary with a different brand tool cos it didnt work the best with a dewalt when I had my hands on one. If you ever need to do a cable run from the hole to another location, some buster plates and a tonne of silicone does the job. The other more proper way would be to blast thru the first brick on hammer, enter the cavity, then go like 30-40mm and switch to normal drill for the rest, just takes too long imo.

Geeez. Why oh why are splitm boards even allowed any more? Changed a few years ago in Aus. A good move by Doncaster cables. While we've "harmonised" our standards old wiring colours are still the norm for fixed wiring here but changed decades ago for flex cables. We did away with bare earth cables in 1970's or so. CPC is fully insulated and same size as main conductors for twin and earth

"Hager split-load board in a new build, work that out" - was pretty much word-for-word the question I had when I bought mine early 2022. Absolute nonsense. Still haven't got around to replacing it with that double stacked 22 way FuseBox board I keep eyeing up.. Also what I'd do - and do do - is sharp bits and not use hammer, that's usually your best way to not have a blow out, that drill bit is far too small to need hammer, if your bits are blunt sharpen/replace them, they should go through that wall like a knife through butter without hammer. It's like we've forgotten how to use drills. Second one is beefier might need it, but that 6, 8mm, whatever it was... It can still happen, but it's almost like you want it to like that.

Board height:- that should be top/bottom of switch 1200/450mm according to part m. EV charger likewise. Customer can request that it be at a different height but not in a new build & you’ll want the instruction in writing. Some councils are looking at taking action on part m. Nice job but your Zappi needs to be on a double pole breaker and connected so that no other circuits are effected in the event of a fault. As you decided to stick with the existing board, you can get a Hagar double pole RCBO which should have been put that to the right of the main switch with your surge protection. That's why in 99% of cases it's cheaper, quicker and compliant to fit a dedicated EV CU with surge protection. I think Zappi have also updated their literature stating that it should be on a 40a supply ;-)
@williammartinculleton5875

Yes it’s non compliant if on a single pole MCB, must be double pole, in Ireland we install a external isolator as well. “ To be sure, to be sure” 😂😂😂
@stunicholson3921
@stunicholson3921 11 ай бұрын
Zappi says that it just needs to be a suitably rated MCB (32A for a 6mm2 cable), there is no requirement for DP, Zappi itself offers full PEN fault detection and isolation. The circuit is protected within the Zappi to prevent the problems that you mention. You also only need RCD protection at the CU if the cable is SWA, which it is not. There would be more of an argument here to have the MCB placed in the CU outside of the protection of the RCD to allow the home owner to identify easily where the trip has occurred. Looks to be a safe install, nothing would raise a concern.

850 + VAT is £1020. £580 for the charger+ £50 for the SPD&MCB+ £20 for the cable and Wagos means your total equipment cost is £650. Half a day labour is therefore £200+VAT. I would say this is on the low side considering the cost of your tools, testing equipment, training/certifications and business expenses including depreciation and fuel.

@brightsparkmid
@brightsparkmid 11 ай бұрын
@@markhedley5952 the only reason the regs suggest this is because the RCD is for additional protection so rated at 30ma you can expect to get a larger amount of leakage from a car charger so with other circuits in use this may bring the total leakage close to the rated tripping current of the RCD Engendering judgment of the fact that the RCD is in a new build house, the charger will operate within off peak hours etc it will be more than suitable to install into this board As for double pole isolation this is provided by the 2 pole RCD module that is fitted to the board, Chance are that also the onboard 6ma RCD will trip before this does anyway, so will not affect other circuits
@richardwalsh5882
@richardwalsh5882 11 ай бұрын
@@brightsparkmidnot quite true - it could actually blind a Type A RCD. The RDC-DD should prevent above 6mA of leakage being on the EVSE circuit - however if the RCD is illegally shared with other circuits then any additional DC leakage could bring the Type A RCCB beyond this point and saturate it.
