I like the symbolism of the different spirits. The past of Christmas is homey and traditional, like Applejack. Christmas now is about fun and spending time with friends, hence Pinkie Pie. And last but not least, the future is mysterious and intimidating, hence Luna.

This is hands down a top 5 episodes of the whole show for me. Every single joke in the episodes was on point, the characters fun, and the songs amazing. My personal favorite is Derpy at the top of the tree. I love the message as well. It isn't just the typical coming together for the holidays. It is in a way, but there is more to it than that. Snowfall's motivations and reasoning for it is that her teacher put it into her head that spending time with each other is just a waste of time, and that they should spend every waking hour trying to improve the world. So her motivations are clear, and while she is doing horrible actions, I can actually see where she is coming from! While the holiday was at stake, she had good intentions of trying to help Equestria. Not only that but this is the first musical episode, that had all the songs be fantastic. Sure Snowfall's and Luna's were the two best, but the others were darn good as well. Is it a bit rushed? A little. But the songs helped make up for that a lot. Just like "I'll Make Out Of You" from Mulan it is sort of like montages to help speed it up. The reason for the Windigos is also great! A world can not survive on nothing but hatred. But with working with each other, the world can be made better. That is the whole point and it is so well done. Out of the 3 Hearthswarming episodes this is hands down the best one. We start the episode with a good song. The decorate the inside of Twilight's castle, and Derpy breaks the tree topper, so she decides to replace it with....HERSELF!! Derpy just sits on the top of the tree as the new topper. When Twilight asks Starlight if she's ready, and she says she is going to skip it. Twilight tells a story to her, and it was pretty cool. It was pretty much Christmas Carol. Starlight plays the role of the villain in the visuals of the story, and I love these types of episode. Where the characters read a story and have characters from the show fill in the roles of the characters in the story. Anyway, it is a great story. We get a fantastic and surprisingly sinister song, and it might be one of my favorite songs. We get a good joke when Starlight interrupts the story. Snowfall hates Hearthswarming. AJ as the ghost of Christmas Past shows up and takes her to the past. We see her past, and it was decent. Pinkie gets a good song as Hearthswarming Present ghost, this bit is just as funny as the set up counts. Hearthswarming future ghost is Luna. I love this as she herself did a horrible future as well by eternal night as Nightmare Moon, and they did not go with the obvious Twilight Sparkle. We get a full-on Luna song, showing the horrible events Snowfrost would cause. She decides against her plan. Snowfrost goes to see the ponies, and apologizes. This is pretty much the typical Christmas Carol story, but it was fun to watch. It was a great episode. The story, was so relatable to Stalight, and in turn made it a good episode. The episode was halarious, creepy and heartfelt. I have to put it in my top 5 favorites. The jokes were fantastic, the set up was wonderful, and executed perfectly. All the songs were pretty good, ESPECIALLY Snowfall Frost's about ending Hearthswarming and Luna's song about the consiquinces. A+

I don't think it was the show doing that. It was more like, of all ponies, Starlight can't talk about Snowfall being "too extreme", and Spike, being Spike, took that opportunity to call out and roast her. In fact, Starlight learned a 2nd lesson this episode: don't give Spike The Dragon THAT big a opportunity to roast you, or he's GOING to take it! Lol

The amount of background detail in this episode gives it a lot of replay value. In that way, it reminded me of the first Nightmare Night episode, Luna Eclipsed. +Narrator007 The lighting was great. Also really just loved Starlight's expression there. Those eyes... 1. Interesting coincidence there. 4. Yeah. Definitely rare. 5. Ha... 6. I don't know. I think Our Town is pretty perfect for what it is. It was the right song for that episode and Starlight there, accentuating the creepiness of the village and the ideology. Now, it would have been a treat if we had maybe gotten villain song from Starlight in Cutie Re-mark when she was all fury and revenge, but it probably would have meant less fun time travel stuff. 7. I'm just glad Celestia solo is something that already happened three seasons ago. And yeah. I'm definitely looking forward to re watching this one and seeing all the background stuff I missed. Luna.

Why do Americans care so much about holiday episodes airing on the holiday they represent? In European countries, most TV shows are imported from the US, and holiday specials NEVER air on the holidays, but instead fall in random places throughout the year. Having lived with that my entire life and really not caring at all about it, I find it super odd that it's such a big deal in the US. Also, Kazumi Evans didn't sing for Luna in this episode. It was actually Aloma Steele. :)
