The visual representation of Paul's Blindness really helped me understand how he literally views the world.
@junbh210 ай бұрын
I am always amazed that he recognizes as much as he does visually and can use his vision as much as he does. Sometimes I wonder if it's actually slightly better than that??? Or if he's just good at it because he's been practicing for so long.
@aRealAndHumanManThing9 ай бұрын
@junbh2 I'd guess it's the second thing. I, for example, had the problem in high school that my mother got anxious when she slept with a closed door, since she always worried sth might happen to me or the dog who slept in the hallway (didn't mind my door tho). Now to my actual point, I managed to find the kitchen and pour a glass if water (downstairs) in almost complete darkness pretty quickly once I started to stay up later. And that's for a person who doesn't "train" 24/7

I'm guessing Paul never saw any of those "Move Back" warnings given his limited vision? They need to add an audio component to those warnings, too.

Mr. Maple is like sorry Dad I'm here to stay and I refused to be replaced. You gotta keep giving me treats and I'll take you any place you want to go. Now with those Goggles you look like you forgot to take them off after your skiing trip. Also Dad you will never be able to replace me. I loved the way Matthew followed and videotaped you to make sure you wouldn't have any unanticipated problems. Paul if you believe this device could aid those in the blind community sign on as a paid advisor to help them develop the product as to what is or isn't helpful, what not to have and what could be added to make the product better. Mr. Maple will never take the place of any device and he knows it. As a matter of fact I believe Mr. Maple deserves a pup cup. He loves both you and Matthew so much he would never let anything ever happen to either one of you.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I’m wondering if the Vision Pro can do two things for Paul: 1. Zoom in on things like a walk/don’t walk sign across the street so he can see it (or at least the color). 2. Give verbal directions like the iPhone can, and he could access the map if needed (PS, Paul can do this on the iPhone or Apple Watch using an airpod to hear and Apple Maps gives Taptic directions on the Apple Watch).

I had a neighbor whose son is blind. He would retire his dogs to her when he would get a new one. They were the absolute best dogs! One of them was named Flanders, and when she let him out to potty, he would come straight to my house to visit his little crackhead friend, ie; my Charlie. Charlie was part chihuahua, part poodle, pug, American Eskimo dog, Lhasa apso, and rat terrier, 😆 according to his dna test anyway. I just called him the best boy ever. ❤ Mister Maple is a very good boy. ❤

Just a thought, if you are even a little more hesitant when crossing the street then you are when just on the sidewalk. Maple might sense that and slow down a bit in response as a way to try to help you. Doggos, especially one as highly trained and in tune as Maple, are very sensitive to even small changes in our behaviour/movement that we ourselves might not even consciously notice.

I wonder if the screen is dim because it’s a hazard to have a bright screen so close to the eye. Kind of like how parents would tell their kids not to sit so close to the tv.

Hi! I had a question and was wondering if you all had any brilliant thoughts about it. When I was younger, I would sometimes close my eyes and try to navigate around our house without my sight because I wanted to know a little bit of what it would be like to be blind (I now know that there's so much more to blindness than complete vision loss, but I didn't know that at the time), and the other day I started doing it and paused to think if it felt like that was offensive. It really did come out of a place of curiousity and wanting to have a glimpse into that life, but I'm also fully sighted (minus needing glasses) and I don't know if that was overstepping any boundaries. P.S. I love the channel, hearing Paul say mAtTheW! always puts a smile on my face. ❤
@jholly57473 ай бұрын
I am blind, and I don’t think your curiosity is offensive. Maybe if more side of people try to experience what it’s like to be blind then they would have more of an understanding of what it’s like to be visually impaired or blind. I just became totally blind in December 2022, before that I was, legally blind, and before that I was fully sided. If you want to experience what it’s like to have different visual diseases, you can get a pair of glasses that mimics that. Not sure where you can get those glasses, but they mimic disease such as RP stars,glaucoma, diabetic, retinopathy, and macular degeneration.
@Azeazezar6 ай бұрын
I wouldn't be surprised if they can do filters that give you control over contrast and scaling, stuff like that. Making that tiny sliver of vision more effective. But that's more for a headset that actually has the brightness to help with that. Psvr2 is modern and has the brightness, but it needs to stay tethered to a PS5/(soon PC). And doesn't have color cameras.

How does mr. Maple know when the light is red and u can cross the road or when u cant cross the road?
@ET136666 ай бұрын
From my understanding, Guide Dogs can't understand traffic lights, but they can see if there are cars coming, and stop their owner if it's not safe. I believe Paul uses the traffic lights when they're available; I believe he has enough vision to see when the light turns green. At crossings without a traffic light, Paul listens to see if there are any cars coming. If Paul tried to cross, but there were cars coming, Mr Maple would physically block Paul from stepping onto the road. I believe this is called Intelligent Disobedience, and it is essential for a guide dog. I'm not an expert of any kind, I've just watched a lot of their videos. If anyone has more/better information, please feel free to correct me.

I’m sure this is a silly question but is how much we saw on the video, the same view Paul sees? If so it goes from a large pinhole to a wide view. If that’s the view of what Paul sees, screw the dark shade, or like wearing sunglasses. They say dogs are great sensing emotion, no wonder why he was acting differently. He might know Paul is able to see more and getting worried he won’t be in control soon.

I really hope Apple is seeing this, I know your friend Molly Burke is going to be trying them. She has less vision, but she enjoys the little light she can see. I don't know how she will like them if they are taking away her little bit of light. That said, she does wear sunnies outside because of sensitive eyes. She is excited about the voice assistance just like you were talking about. I do think they will work better for her because she has less vision well only a little light vision. #Appleaccessibility
