Yup !! The difference is Shannon didn't know he was going to die , he was so happy about that little girl of his. Layne knew it was going to happen just a matter of when . I know there is a lot of love being said about shannon but I also want to acknowledge just how amazing every band member was! Glen plays the drums with insane fills throughout the whole song! A dog is man’s best friend. So Shannon’s “dog” were drugs. The perverted thought is his best friend sticking him with its needle. The hunter’s dog called god refers to the constellation above us, or the heavens above us where people find their new best friend, the biblical god, and get over their addictions. 🤷🏼♂️ For what it’s worth, that’s how I interpret the lyrics.
