Huge BM fan of first record and was supposed to see them in Cleveland 2 weeks after Shannon's death. Initially I didn't like Soup as much as the first album but have come to appreciate its brilliance as being as good and in some ways better than their first album. They had a ton of talent and its such a shame it left us too early.

I dunno. I'd say unknown or lesser known. Anyone who knows a tiny bit about music knows about Shannon. He's been in my top ten singers of rock list for years, even thought I'm not totally impressed by their catalog. There's just so few singers that are truly unique sounding and he's one of them. Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, Freddy Mercury, Robert Plant, Michael Stipe, Shannon Hoon, Perry Farrell, Janis Joplin, Bowie, Axl, Ozzy. Sometimes they change, but Shannon never slides out. Billy Corgan may be my favorite artist of all time, but Shannon is so unique at the mic he's never been ignored.

Never paid much attention to them in 90's as we were spoiled for choice musically,so many awesomebands from USA and British scene, powerful guitar riffs and great voices, song writing, groundbreaking vids. For me Blind melon werent on my periphery, pleasant enough but rather late bandwagon ride into that 60's Indie "strawberry fields forever"sound, and wavery, weak vocals, boring, unoriginal videos(probably supposed to be quirky along with the name, all been done much earlier by Brits but better. Also their debut coincided with rise of dodgy cut pills, heroin, ketamine, downers, alcohol use in Britain that killed the loved up happy vibe of the party/rave scene, sorry to go on,just my observations,I lost my soulmate to the needle,he O'D to Blind Melon on 3rd July 1995,I was there,I found him,he was only 18,I gave birth to our daughter 2 wks later but I digress,my point is that Blind Melon got better and better, worked hard, honed their craft, songs and sound more rich, unique, complex, creative, lead vocalist mastered his voice 100% from the nasal whine of their early stuff,I even liken them to the awesome Jane's addiction,Perry Farrell had similar slightly whiney vocal tone, but mastered the shit out his vocal ability to sing amazing. Shame Billy Corgan, Smashing pumpkins never trained and adapted his rather intensely grating, whine, cos his band were tight, musically rocked,I put up with Corgans vocals cos the band is well worth it. Final point, altho probably no one's gonna read my 2:45am ramblings, has anybody else noticed that the lead singer from My chemical romance looks just like a young Billy Corgan, even down to the shape of his teeth? Or is it just me? Anyway, tired now, fuck it,I'm off to my bed.🤔🧐😔😴

What a masterpiece. Provocative lyrics, powerful dynamics, killer guitar tones, rich bass sound and clean classic drumming all combined with Shannon's soul shaking delivery. It brings me to tears. It's as if the angels heard my pleas and answered me with this gift. Who can possibly listen to this without singing along? Who here doesn't vibrate to that level of pain with which Shannon sings? Deep inside us all we know that pain. So deep and hidden, and yet inescapable.

It was a saturday afternoon in 1995 and I was watching videos on MTV and suddenly the Toes across the floor video came on. I had already heard Galaxy and although I had liked it, this new song filled me with joy. Blind melon had made another unique song, surely the whole new album would be amazing. The fact shannon was able to convince his loved ones he had his addiction under control is devastatingly sad...a great artist and a terrible loss

They all knew he wasn't Ok. The industry pushes Musicians to perform no matter what. I did see a interview with Shannon's (Blind Melon's) Manager. After the incident in Vancouver his manager wanted Shannon to go to Rehab. Shannon said he wasn't ready. A addict has to want it bad or Rehab is a waste of time it seems.

He thought his performance was terrible the night before, so he went on an all night drug binge and died in the early morning/morning.

@@michaelpal5807 - Absolute truth. According to Lisa (his longtime girlfriend), he didn't want to go straight back on tour after rehab. He knew he wasn't ready, and the band knew it, too...... Capitol Records suits pushed him because "Soup" hadn't gone platinum, and they wanted their money.

@@broeheem2804 Sad huh 😞 Shannon was such a mess. Never saw anyone look that bad as he did in some of Blind Melon's last videos. Shannon had mental health issues no doubt and needed long term treatment. Sounds like he was constantly high on something. I think the band members tried to help Shannon. They were so young and toured relentlessly for over a year. Shannon went off the rails and they had to cancel some of their European tour. Shannon needed to be in Rehab for long term & really work on himself. Not be thrown back into the temptations of touring. Just Sad who knows maybe he would have never got better Layne Staley rehab over a Dozen times Scott Weiland rehab 13 times some make it out alive other's don't. 💔💔💔

@@michaelpal5807 In my opinion, rehab is just "pushing in the clutch". Success only happens if you want it to happen. People go to rehab over and over and over, but if they don't want to quit, they don't. My life story...... alcoholic by 18, cocaine fiend for about 10 years. Little by little, it became not fun anymore, at which point, it just slowly went away. Never went to rehab, just lost interest. You quit when you get tired of the negative parts of being high, at which point, rehab is unnecessary. To me, rehab is a money-making machine and little else.

[Verse 1] Doesn't anybody feel That all these killers should be killed And all these healers should be healed So all these beggers can be filled? And now, tell me, why am I to lie If I'm holding firm and feel the right [Chorus] To lie beside this dog of mine And let that perverted thought really run through my mind? Through my mind [Verse 2] I'd scrape my toes across the floor This day's the same as those before And though, inside, I'm feeling giddy Always wrong for never giving myself that un-invaded door So, now I'll take a little glue I'll put together a new glittered room for view [Chorus] So I can start sitting so pretty Instead of sitting here not seein' clear Just sitting here, not fittin' here No, things ain't fittin' here [Bridge] [Chorus] I'll just lay my head down beside this God of mine And let that perverted thought burn a hole in my mind And if I can't lay my head beside this God of mine Maybe the hunter's dog called God Could be my friend, in time

Jon Whittemore, I was always told that Shannon and Axl grew up together. Most people are clueless about how bad ass this band was. I guess "No Rain" somewhat put them in the "one hit wonder" category unfortunately!
