Huge BM fan of first record and was supposed to see them in Cleveland 2 weeks after Shannon's death. Initially I didn't like Soup as much as the first album but have come to appreciate its brilliance as being as good and in some ways better than their first album. They had a ton of talent and its such a shame it left us too early.

I dunno. I'd say unknown or lesser known. Anyone who knows a tiny bit about music knows about Shannon. He's been in my top ten singers of rock list for years, even thought I'm not totally impressed by their catalog. There's just so few singers that are truly unique sounding and he's one of them. Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, Freddy Mercury, Robert Plant, Michael Stipe, Shannon Hoon, Perry Farrell, Janis Joplin, Bowie, Axl, Ozzy. Sometimes they change, but Shannon never slides out. Billy Corgan may be my favorite artist of all time, but Shannon is so unique at the mic he's never been ignored.

Never paid much attention to them in 90's as we were spoiled for choice musically,so many awesomebands from USA and British scene, powerful guitar riffs and great voices,song writing, groundbreaking vids. For me Blind melon werent on my periphery,pleasant enough but rather late bandwagon ride into that 60's Indie "strawberry fields forever"sound,and wavery,weak vocals,boring,unoriginal videos(probably supposed to be quirky along with the name,all been done much earlier by Brits but better. Also their debut coincided with rise of dodgy cut pills, heroin,ketamine,downers,alcohol use in Britain that killed the loved up happy vibe of the party/rave scene,sorry to go on,just my observations,I lost my soulmate to the needle,he O'D to Blind Melon on 3rd July 1995,I was there,I found him,he was only 18,I gave birth to our daughter 2 wks later but I digress,my point is that Blind Melon got better and better,worked hard,honed their craft,songs and sound more rich, unique,complex,creative,lead vocalist mastered his voice 100% from the nasal whine of their early stuff,I even liken them to the awesome Jane's addiction,Perry Farrell had similar slightly whiney vocal tone,but mastered the shit out his vocal ability to sing amazing. Shame Billy Corgan, Smashing pumpkins never trained and adapted his rather intensely grating,whine,cos his band were tight,musically rocked,I put up with Corgans vocals cos the band is well worth it. Final point,altho probably no one's gonna read my 2:45am ramblings,has anybody else noticed that the lead singer from My chemical romance looks just like a young Billy Corgan,even down to the shape of his teeth? Or is it just me? Anyway,tired now,fuck it,I'm off to my bed.🤔🧐😔😴

What a masterpiece. Provocative lyrics, powerful dynamics, killer guitar tones, rich bass sound and clean classic drumming all combined with Shannon's soul shaking delivery. It brings me to tears. It's as if the angels heard my pleas and answered me with this gift. Who can possibly listen to this without singing along? Who here doesn't vibrate to that level of pain with which Shannon sings? They were so young and toured relentlessly for over a year. Shannon went off the rails and they had to cancel some of their European tour. Shannon needed to be in Rehab for long term & really work on himself. Not be thrown back into the temptations of touring. Little by little, it became not fun anymore, at which point, it just slowly went away. Never went to rehab, just lost interest. Sad he's gone i really loved his sound! Another very unique musician gone wayyyy to soon. . i dare to think what they all could accomplished if Shannon was still alive! It's so magical when a group can rise up as they did! And their music remain so very unique! Miss this kid!!

Discovered this band a year ago, gave them a little listen and didn't mind. Revisited them the other day, so glad I did. Whilst the self titled album was good, soup is something else.

I miss this band! One of a handful of bands that came out in the 90's that didn't suck. Nirvana couldn't touch this level of talent.

it sucks they were discovered by Axl Rose
@brucekulickfan420610 жыл бұрын
Jon Whittemore, I was always told that Shannon and Axl grew up together. Most people are clueless about how bad ass this band was. I guess "No Rain" somewhat put them in the "one hit wonder" category unfortunately!
@420cacter10 жыл бұрын
1 hit wonder? they had 4 songs off that album alone that charted. its ashame that people only associate them with that song because they were such great artists. if he hadnt overdosed god only knows how many albums theyd have out now

I don't think that's a fire extinguisher. It looks more like an oxygen tank.
@WadeWilson-8 жыл бұрын
nope that is a fire extinguisher. It has a hose and a trigger.
