Stairway to Heaven begins with a guitar and flute sound, perhaps music found in the middle ages. Then the guitar builds and becomes more modern. Then the percussion drives the beat to synchronicity. Then we have the change with the electric guitar sole bringing the song to climax. This song is as close to making love to a beautiful woman as I have ever experienced. It would be a tragedy if you failed to experience this song sometime in your lifetime.

Lies, all lies. The 'flute' part was played on a keyboard instrument called the Mellotron.
@darrencooke42072 жыл бұрын
Lies, all lies. On the album, version John Paul Jones played a bass, soprano and tenor recorders and harmonised them together while mixing. When live he played it on a keyboard. There is no way that even the wonderful melotron would get the absolutely perfect reproduction of real instruments. Whilst it used any sound put into it, it can't reproduce the perfect way each note blends into the next. Get your facts right first!

I've heard this song hundreds of times, but I never noticed before how much the instruments sound like singing. Not like a human voice, necessarily, but still singing. My favorite part is towards the end. If you listen carefully, you'll notice that the lead guitar is slowing down at a different rate than the other instruments, and the song sort of slides apart for a few seconds. Genius.

Sit down, shut up, Master Class is in session...I was given a gift of a few words from my grandfather once when I was young. He told me as I go through life, to listen to every little piece of music that I could get my hands on, regardless of what kind of music it was...just LISTEN to it. For, "discovery" only happens once, so kick your feet up and ENJOY. Because you're only gonna have that feeling just ONCE. I'm fifty-five now and have learned those words apply to everything in life. So, I would tell you to ENJOY every second of everything. Those "seconds" are a gift...

In the early days of the band, Jimmy Page helped Robert write the lyrics to many of the songs. Then Robert said, hey Jimmy, hold my beer, and proceeded to pen the lyrics for Stairway. After Robert wrote the lyrics for that song, Jimmy basically said, Ok, Bobby, you write the lyrics from now on. I'll play the guitar.

If you hear a different instrument, in a Zeppelin song, it's almost definitely JPJ. Either playing that instrument itself, or recreating the sound on his synth. Some Zeppelin songs sound as if a whole orchestra is accompanying them but it's JPJ. The main exceptions to this 'rule' are when Robert is on the harmonica, when Jimmy is doing something mad with his guitar, including playing it with a cello bow on a few songs, or when it's Jimmy on the theramin. For the theramin, it's probably easier for you to search for a video of someone playing it, rather than for me to attempt an explanation. :)
