I’ve seen many bands in concert, sadly not LZ though, I’m loving seeing these lives of them & I enjoy all the reactions. I’m so glad you & so many others are enjoying them, after all these years. Each of them are the GOATS of their craft, & together they are GODS of music.

Another great performance: the “Communication Breakdown Promo” from 1969. Just an insane performance from a very young, very hungry Led Zeppelin. The energy level is through the roof, and Plant’s vocals (and the dialogue between his vocals and Page’s guitar) are insane. This was a promotion including Communication Breakdown (which is probably the very beginning of heavy metal), running into a shortened version of Dazed and Confused with just the most intense parts. As a whole, this performance is 9 minutes of pure adrenaline.

There is so many different performance during the end of the 60's to the end of the 70's you really need to put on your watch list of Zeppelin. Adding to this is the last time they were all on stage together of course without John Bonham but with his son on drums 2007 Celebration Day that was fabulous.

That WARM bass that you talk about that feels like it's giving you a hug, is not a string bass, it was John Paul Jones playing the organ bass pedals with his feet…...which he learned as a young man playing church organ. Yeah, Robert Plant still sounded great. As I said somewhere else, Plant at 75% is still way better than so many singers at 100%. But look on KZbin for a live version of this from late ‘70 or ‘71 (you’ll find them in audio, not video) and you’ll see what I mean. Back then (and in the studio version) he was hitting notes in the stratosphere with ease and with enough power that people in the back of the audience must have been feeling a breeze. Here he was really good (and of course had that great charisma). In the earlier years the range and power of his vocals were virtually super-human. One thing that makes Plant great, however, is the way he was able to adapt to the ongoing changes in his voice throughout the years.

I've always had an arguement with people saying that Jimmy wasn't the best cause he was sloppy and couldn't "read " music..I say he was the best cause he could do any style ..with made up tunings,, with a delivery that grabbed you by the shirt and pulled you into the emotions of the song..
@cynergy44 жыл бұрын
@@brianrussell6570 So what if he was sometimes sloppy, he made us FEEL! I simply ignore the naysayers, they will never understand the difference between technical guitar playing and the magic that came from Page thru his guitar

1975 performances onwards was when Roberts vocal weaknesses showed a lot. Unfortunately due to Zeppelin not doing any TV performances and refusing to release singles it meant they had to do a ridiculous amount of shows early in their career to get the fame level they had here by 1973. This was the year they broke the Beatles attendance record and was by far the biggest music act in the world. The stones, the who etc couldn’t touch them. Even Elvis himself requested an audience with them to see who this band was knocking him off the charts haha. They also as they say, redefined the rock n roll lifestyle and smoked and drunk loads, which again lead to Plants voice loosing that range. He also opened up with immigrant song for over 100+ shows and that’s a real vocal shredder. (You’ll know why when you hear it lol) Only when you look back to their early performances you will really hear Plants peak power and Most consider it to be the best rock voice of all time between 68-72 You should check out their 1969 performances to get a feel for his singing style changing over the years. You’re on a great music discovery my friend, but be warned, you will really struggle to find anything better once you’ve seen it all. That’s the only downside to Zep lol
@rickm12554 жыл бұрын
What Robert did in those first 3 years of Zeppelin was absolutely insane, both in his unbelievable raw talent and their indifference to the consequences. We'll never know exactly what happened between Australia and Japan in 72 but your point about opening with Immigrant Song all of those shows cannot be overstated.
@heliotropezzz3334 жыл бұрын
He even sung when he had flu apparently. That wouldn't do the voice any good, and they did 3 hour shows, sometimes twice a day. George Harrison commented to them, after seeing one of their shows that they didn't do any slow songs. After that they started writing some. Going full throttle on every song would have shredded his voice. He also had to sing loud enough to be heard over that heavy percussion.
@JohnsonTheReal4 жыл бұрын
Robert hurt himself because he's "self thought". He probably lacked technique which could cause damage to his vocal cords, I'm just guessing though, and definitely not trying to take anything away from his fantastic voice when I say he might have lacked technique.
@heliotropezzz3334 жыл бұрын
@@JohnsonTheReal * self taught?. Yes, there wasn't much thought given to voice protection in those days from people who were self taught but Led Zep did have a punishing schedule at times with very long concerts and he even sang while he had flu. Also all their songs tended to be loud and fast until George Harrison suggested to them that they needed some slower songs (ballads).
@JohnsonTheReal4 жыл бұрын

I love it, but think the version from Royal Albert Hall in 1970 is even better/higher energy. Part of it is about the singing-Robert Plant’s voice was way better in ‘70 than in ‘73, given the damage to his voice he’d sustained by ‘73. Just to clarify that though-Robert Plant at 75% is still better than most singers at 100%. Earlier, up until early ‘72 however, his voice wasn’t just great, it was practically super-human.
