This one surprised me. I actually preferred MOVO because your voice sounded clearer on it. From what I can tell, NTG had more bass and sounded warmer. I'm a little ashamed to have guessed it wrong considering I own a VideoMic NTG myself. I really should go try and improve my listening abilities.

While u were switching during regular convo, I didn't pick up a difference at all but when u read the book... A, sounded so smooth and creamy, while B was a little crackie/recerb with certain words... Ofcourse don't judge me I am in no way a pro at this. But... U did say to leave a comment 🤦🏽‍♂️ so this is honest, untrained ear feedback. Really appreciate this video and thanks for sharing... This helped so much especially as I in in the market for a new mic for my KZbin channel, thank you 🙏🏽

You're definitely right about that. The Movo clearly has more room noise at the same distance. And since my room is very well treated, with virtually no reflections, I'm curious how much worse it would be in typical untreated room. May have to repeat this test in my dining room.

Surprising! if there is no text telling which one microphone is, could not really tell the difference. But when i really pay attention to the voice, so i tell the difference. To me NTG sounds richer than Movo. Movo sounds bit muffled, i just only using speaker when i listened to the voice. Actually i'm interested to buy Rode NTG, but the non-replacement battery concern me for the long run. Anyway, great content thanks for making this video!

I got it right, but only due to a very slight sharpness in upper mid range. The difference seems to be minute and really insignificante. With some simple post processing they could be made to sound identical under the conditions in the video. A well excecuted comparisson.
@AudioforContentCreators

I'm working on that video LOL "how to EQ a budget shotgun mic to sound more like an expensive one." And I think. you hit a really important point here: "Under the conditions in this video." What I'm curious about is, would these sound as close if I weren't in a fully treated studio, but say, a dining room with hardwood floors, a glass table, and relatively bare walls? Hmmm....

@@AudioforContentCreators Another aspect that is valid for many comparisson videos of microphones is that if I didn't have the Rode mic to compare with I would accept the sound from the MOVO without any post processing.

Really, really good point. We never get to compare in real-world situations. When we watch a video, we never get to say, "Let's hear that line again but with this other mic." Our ears become accustomed to whatever we are presented.

I ( barely ) noticed the difference with the monitoring headphones. As for the Rode features, two of them are particularly appealing to me: gain adjustment and headphone output. The most in-camera mic preamps tend to be noisy/hissy, so I set the gain in the camera to a minimum and come in with a hot signal from the mic. If needed I would connect the Rode headphone output to the camera. For now I use the headphone output of the recorder to the mic input of the camera. As for the USB interface feature, I tried to record directly in the computer, but the quality was somehow disappointing compared to Zoom H4.
@AudioforContentCreators
@AudioforContentCreators 4 жыл бұрын
I've been using the NTG via USB for livestreaming, boomed overhead. Quality is going to be shattered anyway by the livestream compression, and I love having the 75hz cut and presence boost built right in. But for regular video work? It's a noticeable difference but ONLY if you're really focusing in a dead silent environment on professional grade headphones or monitors.
@CreatorsMediaTools
@CreatorsMediaTools 4 жыл бұрын
If you are on a Windows computer, I found I needed to go into the Windows Audio Recording tab for the mic and turn the levels down to 38 to keep words like "Now" and "Wow" from overloading due to resonances buildups in my mouth and throat. So, the USB connection seems to require some gain-staging performed at that level, which affects the gain at the input stage before the mic is sent to any apps.

The NTG sounds way more full where as the VXR10 sounds a lot more Tinny and more punchy, it's not as smooth or as pleasant to listen to as the NTG, however it's absolutely passable and offers great quality for the price. One HUGE thing the NTG has over the VXR10 if you take away all of the added features of the NTG is that the NTG is battery powered and doesn't rely as heavily on the pre-amps of DSLR cameras which lowers the unclean gain. I shoot with canon and I actually have a VXR10 and I have to fight with unclean gain from Canon's pre-amps where as this is mainly negated, or at least severely minimized with a powered mic like the NTG.

Great video. I can’t say the NTG is 5x the price for the reasons you mentioned. It sounds nearly 2x as good. Like a Deity D3 level and maybe even better. Which makes the NTG astonishing value considering everything else it ads. But… if maybe it’s your first mic and you can’t do $250, the Movo is an amazing alternative.

First, THX for a nice test. I would say that * RODE is absolutely better than MOVO - but now comes the * better means it has a wider frequency range, in this example it takes better up the low sound, and that is GREAT in some situations. But videofilming something can also be "destroyed" by a mic that takes up too much sound. Is it preferable that it takes up low frequency sounds when you are OUTDOORS (in a city) no... in that case, it might be that MOVO takes up a dialogue a little better than RODE... so the result is totally up to what you try to get. One more thing... the price point favours MOVO!
