Just goes to show though how some bad decision making can lead to unfortunate trail of events… the pilots didn’t pilot properly and were lucky to have not caused an accident through their improper thinking

is it haze or is it fn air pollution? satisfactory air pollution levels ar 50 or lower - i just looked up Jaipur today and it is 172 = massive air quality health risk. i couldn't imagine living there, none the less flying into that country as a pilot and unable to see anything.

Definitely a learning experience for the cockpit crew! Nevertheless, the decision to go around was the right one, and shows a decent amount of airmanship on their part. I was trying to recall an airline accident at the end of February 2016 -- and that's the best of reasons why: there wasn't one.

The company needs to focus on their CRM training ! It states early on that the crew were instructed to expect an 'ILS Localizer Approach', (not an ILS Approach), this would indicate that there was no glideslope available.. was that a misprint ? Always impressed by the graphics.. Well done :>)

In the morning, the state’s department of transportation stops traffic on a major east-west interstate here in the US for the same reason, the sun’s glare. The area is called Floyd’s Hill. In the Front Range of the Rockies, already a traffic hazard due to cars traveling at 80 mph and semi-trucks driving at 30 due to steep grades. The stop is only for a short time but long enough to get the sun out of drivers’ eyes

I am not sure how far the visibility was in miles (not into the metric thing...lol) but the crew got talked into the visual approach with near disastrous results! There is a great lesson here isn't there.....lot's of things to be considering at all times!

Hi Allec, Oggie Ogelthorpe here. I have a story for you that happened to me. There is no record of it as all survived. It happened between 1995 and 97. Would have to go thru my logbooks to verify. A very similar yet different story happened to me as a 757 copilot on approach into Guatemala City on a misty rainy night but in my case the issue was a thing called " map shift " on the old non gps INS systems. Good save, guys. If they had crashed, the Controller would certainly share in the blame. They shouldn't have been given a visual approach from that end of the runway at that time of day with the sun where it was.
