I actually love that they continue to remind you about Nina and Alexander throughout the whole series. Ed and Al never forget about her. Just like Hughes never stops being one of Mustang's biggest motivations. They always remember the people they couldn't help. If you're going to kill off characters in a story, this is the way to do it. Never forget the ones you've lost, because they'll never forget you.

That's one of the best things about this show. The deaths have weight, from start to end. Hughes' death motivates Mustang right up until the final arc. Nina & Alexander haunt Ed & Al every time they are confronted with death and every time they encounter the horrors that alchemy can produce. They're not done for a cheap emotional hit and then forgotten when a segment of the story is done.

In the manga, Ed didn't break through the gate to give that promise to Al. Instead, he promised Al that someday soon he'd come back for him as he was being dragged through the gate. With that said, I really loved how they added Ed breaking through the gate more because it was the best thing ever to happen for the end of this episode. It made us really feel his unconditional love and determination to get Al's body back. Even Hiromu Arakawa, the creator, loved this new addition to that scene!

The reason for long saying what he said was the fact the it was ironic because alchemist don't necessarily believe it god but when they transmute it looks like they are praying to God or a god
@Omega64897 жыл бұрын
Let is be known that Al wouldn't be alive unless there was "some kind" of connection between his body and his soul in the gate. Ed stated that Al is getting his nutrients from Ed because the brothers mixed their blood when they opened the gate the first time, hence why Al's body hadn't died years ago and presumably, why Ed thinks he isn't growing as much as he should. This means that real objects outside the gate can affect objects inside the gate. This is also why Ed was able to transmute Al's soul out of the gate and into the armor in the first place, because they mixed their blood. Its also important to note that most people wouldn't have this problem, like Ed and Izumi, but Al isn't capable of eating and sleeping for his body, so he is fortunate that Ed mixed their blood in the first place, else Al's body would have died in the gate long ago, and so probably wouldn't have his soul glued to the armor as long as he has. You guys are right, the Soul-Mind-Body are connected, and the Soul isn't the Mind like Shane is confusing, the Soul is the "spirit" the "liveliness" we all have. The Mind and Body have no emotion, that's what the Soul was. You will notice the Body w/ the Mind was monotone and why it apologized to Ed, it wasn't really sad. That being said, Al's body isn't truly without a soul, because as we've seen, if you remove the soul from the body, and even if you add another soul, it will rot like a corpse.
@silentjackm.d44903 жыл бұрын
Well it's always been my theory that al's body is still connected to his soul and thus has a concept of emotions and can feel them in some semblance. His body is not without a soul, if you remember Ed specifically said that the transmutation circle he drew on the armor is The binding between his soul and the armor. this implies that his soul is still probably inside the gate in a way but the transmutation circle is basically channeling it through the armor.. think of it like an RC car with extra steps.

To answer Aaron's question re: Ling's remark - alchemists are scientists in this world, and they usually don't believe in a god. Ling just found it interesting (or ironic?) that Ed's gesture of transmutation looks like a prayer.
@LukasJampen7 жыл бұрын
Ed and Al did the transmutation togheter and Ed sacrificed his arm to tie Als soul to the armor and somewhere in that process their portals got linked. In an earlier episode they said that maybe Als body takes nourishment from Eds body. That explains why he sleeps a lot according to al.
@JoeltheFro7 жыл бұрын
I've always seen the part where Ling says that it looks like Ed was praying as a statement that may use knowledge further than what he'd know. I think it's supposed to be the viewer, showing that although doesn't believe in God traditionally, alchemy is his God.

Here's my take on ling's comment about edward's hand that looks like he's praying whenever he transmute: Alchemists are scientists, therefore like edward mentioned in the second episode, they don't really believe in god or more specifically religions. But after seeing the truth, he can do his "science" just by clapping his hands (which doesn't make sense to other alchemists) which makes him look like he's praying. So there's an irony going on there. I think that's what the author was trying to tell us.

Daniel Falade there's a problem with your statement though. The reason Bradley doesn't regenerate is because Bradley has only one soul left in him and the philospher stone powering him. It's because his soul was in a constant battle during the transformation and all but one soul for destroyed, it's not because he's human based. SPOILERS . . . . . 15:20 In a previous episode, Edward contemplates the scientific reasoning behind his alchemical methods. He essentially muses that there's nothing religiously applicable in the practice of Alchemy, and so leaves himself ignorant to the otherwise deific implications of an alchemist without mortal limits. This later leads to a broader argument, centered on the limits of a "human" soul when compared to the unending, eternal will of "God." ...To prevent possible spoilers, I say no more.

It can be inferred that Ed is an atheist based on his encounter with Rose back in the first few episodes and if he worshiped anything, it was the science of alchemy. Alkahestry, by contrast, is centered on a concept called the "Dragon's Pulse" which speaks of the Earth itself having a constant flow of chi (life energy) which flows metaphorically from the tops of mountains down to the land, nourishing everything it passes with that energy as does blood coursing through the veins. Using this concept, Alkahestrists are capable of a higher level of medical transmutation than Amestrian alchemists - transmitting chi through the pathways of the human body to cure mild ailments as well as minor injuries - and can even project their transmutations over long distances and wide areas by accessing and guiding that current to their own means with Purification Circles and Alkahestric markers, a function of which Amestrian Alchemy is altogether incapable. As a result, there is a more spiritual component to the Xingese method than that used by Amestrians. So having Ling make that statement highlights an irony with regard to Edward.

@@matthewletexier I know that I'm late and not the one you asked the question to, but I agree with his statement. To me this is one of the best represantation of God in media because you don't understand what or who it is, yet everyone tries to understand it or surpass it thoughout the whole show. Is it All? Is it One? Is it God? Is it the Universe? Is it the Truth? Or is Truth a deity like we're used to imagine?
