People seem to not see her flaws or the stuff that has helped build her character. Her never having anyone and needing someone to finally be there for her. Finn filled that role. Having no family and losing the closest thing to father figure almost instantly. Not feeling she's worthy until she has to be. Constantly seeing the good in people, even after she was abandoned, even after Kylo after he killed Han. She started as an almost unwilling hero. She felt overwhelmed and had NEVER been involved in anything so important. I love all these things about her. It makes her different to Anakin and Luke.

I think when people compare Luke and Rey and say she's way too good too soon at fighting, I think they forget that she lived alone and had to fight to survive. She also uses the staff to defend herself so she is already proficient with melee weapons for a believable reason. As far as we know, Luke never fought anyone or had a hard time surviving growing up.

I think the excuse is very valid not only did Luke have little training but even after he does the things in New Hope but then AFTER with training with Yoda he doesn't even finish the training and has very very little faith in it. Like Yoda said "that is why you fail" Rey fully believed and dove right into the force like a kid with their imagination anything was possible, Luke did things while believing in barely anything.

In the TFA novelization Kylo knows about Vader turning at the end. Snoke twists it as one moment of weakness in an otherwise great career. He uses it as an example that even the great Darth Vader could fail if not guarded. That's why Kylo says he knows what he has to do with Han. He knows that in order to finish what Vader started he needs to kill his father where Vader failed to kill his son. He believes that choice will give him the strength to succeed where his grandfather failed. It is an inversion of the choice at end of ROTJ. One mistake that Han, Leia and Luke made was not telling Ben that Anakin was once Vader (this was revealed in the Canon book "Bloodline" where Leia was keeping the truth from the public and was worried Ben would find out from others). It was likely Snoke who told him the "truth" about Vader, and the fact that his family lied to him about it was another way to manipulate him to the dark side.

It's such a well made and beautifully crafted film with perfect pacing, cinematography, ect and I can't not love it when I watch it. But the story man, the story is just, unfortunately, a complete lazy, lackluster, predictable letdown and I despise what the film creatively meant for the franchise setting it back years refusing to explore and develop the mythology and galaxy, instead hitting the reset button at detriment to all that came before which really takes me out of it and disinterested in everything to do with that era post TFA and somewhat post ROTJ a bit now. As a result, I'm always hesitant and questioning where I rank this among the other Star Wars films especially as I'm always more into the ideas, characters, stories and themes a film explores. JJ knows how to make a damn good movie but he can't write a good coherent tight story I don't feel, especially without a macguffin. Goes for all his movies MI3 Star Trek, Into Darkness and Lost. I'm pretty anxious about ep 9 lol

@WillFanofMany I know you feel like you served me with a big ole slice of "Gotchya!" pie but, dude, calm down. TFA still remains highly rated by all traditional metrics. Every single one puts it over 80% approval. It made over two billion dollars. There is simply no evidence which supports your claim of it being a failure. It's totally fine for you to hate it, for your friends to hate it, for a bunch of like-minded people to run in the same online circles proclaiming why you hate BUT most people who watched it enjoyed it and it made a bunch of money -- only one of 5 movies to pass the $2B WW threshold. Calling it a failure is factually and literally incorrect. There's nothing you can do about that.

It was mostly Joonas as Chewie even in this one. Peter was only Chewie when he was seated or lying down since he was pretty much disabled at the time. Any time Chewie is walking it was Joonas, so sadly that likely wasn't Peter in the first scene with him and Han.

30:15 Just want to point out that Luke had his uncle and aunt to take care of him his whole life. Hence him being a bit useless at the beginning. Rey was an orphan who had to fence for herself since she was a 6 year old. She had years training and pulling from the force even if she didn't know what it was.

The force awakens only criticism that I found tangible is that it is too similar to "A new hope". It can be a safe bet, made to not offend any of the existing fanbases and also add a new one, but the second part which was sort of subtle retcon of the direction of the first one made franchise suck and that's from where most of the criticism comes from.

@Pro Jey96 Completely agree!! See, criticism regarding rey being able to beat Kylo Ren and also being a good pilot/mechanic was brushed aside coz it was expected in later movies, her background will be explored more. There were scenes where we see her beating guys with staff (suspiciously looking like dual saber), her being a scavager etc. Also, most anticipated for me was her training with luke and how it will be different form the one luke had with yoda. Suffice to say, 2nd part not only fell short of all these, it seemed like it abandoned the whole narrative and gave a semi-boiled mess.

Bryan Lee Na man that’s such a lazy excuse. Kylo at this point had been training for years under Luke and then snoke and Rey had never once held a lightsaber in her entire life. Wounded or not it makes no sense for her to be able to beat him in a duel. Matter of fact none of the stuff she can do makes any sense. After she was abandoned on jakku by her parents she was stuck on that planet her whole life and had never once left which she said herself yet she knows how to pilot the millennium falcon and even fixed the problem when they were trying to take off again after they met with Han by “bypassing the compressor”? She’s literally perfect at everything just because which is horrible writing. She even did a Jedi mind trick on a stormtrooper and she didn’t even know the force existed before that day lol that’s just dumb.

Finn is a trained stormtrooper who has actually fought in melees and has combat training. He got wasted by Kylo Ren. A staff is also a completely different weapon than a sword. @@Tyrantofthewind A staff is not a swort, total different fight style. But, i learnd with hand, legs, elbows to fight, why ray can fight with staff and sword? @@Tyrantofthewind Kylo is badly injured, emotionally devastated, fighting someone who is already a skilled melee fighter who is now being fueled and guided by the Force, and despite all of this Rey is barely managing to stumble away from him for the entire fight until she dials into the Force...still not enough for you? Okay, how about the fact that Kylo *did not want to kill Rey* The biggest thing (but not the only thing) that gets constantly overlooked in this fight is that one of them is fighting to kill (Rey) and one of them isn't (Kylo). Not only that, but it's clear that from the moment he sees her, Kylo has kind of a twisted fascination with her. It's not even remotely subtle. He's attracted to her both on a creepily sexual, romantic level and also on a spiritual level (it's been a long time since he's seen someone he considered to be equally powerful in the Force and that excites him a lot). It's a fight that's about the characters and the story (a la Original Trilogy), not some surface level prequel-era "the only thing that will determine a victor is our skills with a lightsaber" hollow flashing lights show. That's what makes all of the duels from Eps 1-3 so utterly boring. There's never anything going on in those fights other than fighting. It's like the story has to stop every five minutes so people can perform over-choreographed sword fighting. But in the OT and the ST the fights _are_ the story.
@Tyrantofthewind
@Tyrantofthewind 4 жыл бұрын
@@ghani666 That is a whole lot of text to say absolutely nothing of value. Kylo Ren should not have lost that fight period. Your garbage on "emotionally devastated" and what not is just that, garbage. Further, pain and anger are both things Sith thrive on, it doesn't make them weaker. Second, in regards to your "PT fights vs ST fights"...Hahahaha! That is fucking hilarious. You have the editor in the ST editing out daggers, stunt men having to wait like15 seconds because Daisy missed her cue, and Kylo Ren choking himself. You must REALLY HATE the ST if you dislike the PT fights. Do you know why? Because they are dull, FAIL to choreograph, and are so horrendous that the editor has to step in and make things magically disappear. The story? Are you fucking joking? How do the fights help the story when the fucking editor of the movie, the stunt men, and the writing is helping Rey? She is protected from up on high by the prince of darkness. What an atrocious position you have.
