Viking history is such an interesting topic, and the show does well to bring the different points of it into one story. Which I something people forget about when criticizing the show and the time jumps. The writing is literally hundreds of years of actual history, compressed and mixed into a story for TV.

It has been said before, but I will agree with the comments that I don’t think characters’s motivations are that confusing... I can totally see where Aslaug is coming from, even if I don’t agree or even like her sometimes. But for example I never liked Floki as much as you bc I saw something way different in him LOL And welp, Rollo is kind of obvious knowing the history behind it... And Bjorn is kinda amazing, and he’s the crew’s son now

I feel like Eric is really reaching sometimes when trying to find flaws, Aslaug's motivations I thought were perfectly understandable, and then there was the whole Athelstan's death debacle a couple months back. It's kinda funny though as he really doesn't need to over analyse this much to find problems with it, as much as I love this show I have no problem admitting that it's got a lot of flaws (this season especially tbh), just not what Eric usually brings up.

Shane and Calvin understand the show more than Eric and Aaron and I think they enjoy the show more too. Eric and Aaron always analyse this show and overthink things when they don’t have to. For me, it feels like it’s just for Vikings. They never analyse any other shows like they do Vikings so have a feeling they don’t enjoy this show too much. Shane and Calvin understand the motives and don’t think too much about it so it seems like they enjoy it way more.

Siera Gaines They are way more critical about this show than they are with game of thrones. Especially when they don’t have to be critical, they look beyond the answers right in front of them. Both Rollos and Auslags motivations were not hard to understand, they just looked at it at a different point when they shouldn’t have.

Aslaug and Ragnar haven't had a good relationship for a long time and many episodes at this point, her motivations are pretty crystal clear in my opinion. There also wasn't anything they could have done with Lagertha as Ragnars wife. The Vikings in this series have betrayed each other constantly as well, so second guessing if Rollo would do it didn't even enter my mind, haha. Rollo wanted to make his own name the whole series long and this was his chance to do it, it is really not complicated.

I think the resolution of the first conflict is what confuses people. Rollo betrayed his brother but couldn't go through with it because he loves him and now Rollo's doing it again and yet he.....still loves him. So obviously something changed since the last time like siggy's death, the prophecy etc. and you have to be really attentive to pick up on all of that.

Ali Chaudry Yeah I’m loving it. After next weeks Finale, it’s probably gonna be my joint first favourite season along with 4b. Each episode has been great for me. Lets say episode 3 and 8 have been the best. And the scene with Ivar in episode 3 was probably my favourite of the series and of course episode 8 with the battle. Not sure if Blindwave read comments but I don’t think they do so spoilers aren’t too bad.

Taking Ivar to Floki is one of the few things I like about Aslaug. It's not isn't about getting back on Ragnar, it's about doing what she thinks is the best for her son. Ragnar is a pretty absent father, and now he's doing drugs with a slave. He's has been swaying towards Christianity since Athelstan , and Aslaug doesn't like Christians at all, remember how she tortured the missionary guy, so she just wants Ivar to get a proper Viking upbringing by someone she can trust to do that, someone who is true to the gods. Floki loves Ragnar's sons like they were his own. Ivar is a bit of an outsider, a pretty special kid, and I think that Floki can identify with that. And it's not like she was giving him away to Floki, as I understood it she would take him to Floki for some hours a day, like to a tutor who could teach him the right things.

Omar_Elattar. Vikings, hands down man :) Even after 5x09 (Which I can't lie, I hated it and everything about it). Rome is right after (It used to be one favorite). Well, few shows grab both my interest and my heart. And there is something in Vikings, the down to earth events, the down to earth characters the fact that I can see myself and many people I know in all of them... Put it in a Viking period theme, and I'm sold.

You're right it's different those were his fellow brothers but the point still stands. If Rollo did what he did for the greater good, he would not be punished for it. That would mean the ends does justify the means in the eyes of the law. But then again we don't if the reason Rollo won't get punished is because the law is fine with it or because his brother is King.

She also wants to be queen, because she expects Ragnar to die soon because he is sick. She's an ambitious, selfish, set in the old ways, woman. It's not that difficult guys. Rollo could never know for sure that the "loyal" half was that, is just words. Ranger coming back could easily made them change side. The smart thing was to kill all and keep the back safe, Rollo is great, or Rolf as his christian name is now.

Aslaug doesn't give Ivar away to Floki. When she says she's handing him over to Floki's care she means he is to attend Floki's house from time to time to learn about paganism and to be raised like a Viking. There goes Shane again just looking for reasons to judge and dislike women characters. So now it's Torvi's turn who he blames for leaving her son with Lagertha even though Lagertha encouraged her to do that to be with Bjorn. He doesn't bother looking at the context - that she was in an abusive marriage with Erlendur.

There are clearly two different versions of this show, like a theatrical and extended edition. Watching full length while streaming netflix and I have sometimes two scenes in a row that aren't in the blindwave full length. It sucks to have to continuously re-sync the stream but mostly I feel bad for the guys because there are some really important character and plot scenes that they missed out on. Sometimes they include the scenes but they are just in a different order. I find it so odd that the showrunners decided to cut some scenes, and rearrange others, very unusual for a TV show, like a History Channel directors cut.

I feel like you guys try to over analyze this show when it’s a show that doesn’t need to be analyzed at all. Shane and Calvin are good with not doing that they seem to understand the way the show is more, it’s just Eric and Aaron who seem to treat the show like they are watching Game Of Thrones or the Flash or every other show they watch where they gotta over analyze to try and figure out secret motives. Vikings isn’t a show that holds many ulterior motives for characters it’s very to the point, unless you’re looking at the prophecies that are made in the show that is understandable to analyze to figure out but Vikings just isn’t the show where you need to work to figure out why characters do the things they do there are hardly any Ulterior motives that aren’t blatantly explained in the show early on.

3x01 Aslaug loved Rangar, but he confirmed to her that he doesn't. Ever since then, especially after what happened with Harbard. he treated her like shit. In 4x01 she asked the seer what would happen *after* his death. She didn't want to kill him, if she did, she would've done so. Right now she saw right threw king Harald's words, that is why she was serious. Aslaug, despite the Harabard period, was and is loyal. But she is angry at Ragnar, for he way he is treating her. Rollo. He was always a slimy, tricky backstabbing bastard. His actions come at no surprise. Only that now he betrays not only his brother, but his entire race... Bjorn is a terrible father btw. If you can even call his a "father".

It seems like they want more depth from characters when connecting dots is pretty simple. They talk about Rollo like he was a great brother but he has been raping his brothers wife and backstabbing for half series. They have almost always been at conflict in some form. I would argue only line Rollo doesn't want to cross is killing his brother but short of that if he could take everything away from him I think he would for himself. Which is what makes him different from Ragnar that has forgiven him and others. The only thing out of character for Rollo is that he is not the planner like his brother is so its hard to imagine him playing long game. But I think the prophecy is only thing keeping him in line. A bear will be crown and he would go insane with happiness if he knew what fate had for him. I would argue Rollo of all characters has far better fate than any of characters and it was worth the journey. As for Aslaugh they have never had a healthy relationship to begin with starting from very beginning of unseating Ragnar former wife. But the most obvious was when he tried to kill her son they grew distant every episode. Plenty of clues to see this is a loveless marriage with both wanting something from other person. Her wanting power and live on past glory but obviously being taken away from present, senses her position is not solid as have seen. Ivar is her favorite and is some ways the beginning of there differences. It makes perfect sense she doesn't want her son to be anything like man she hates making potential claim to throne in future. As of now Ragnar is loved by his sons so trying to turn them against him would only work against her.

Anyone watch the new episode 5X9? I don’t know why people hate this season. Yes the death was disappointing because he was one of my favorite characters but I’ve come to realize that Vikings will be moving pretty quickly now without Ragnar. So there will be deaths very often I feel like. Also, this isn’t game of thrones and there will be deaths that aren’t really satisfying. I still love this show so much so I’m biased.

Ali Chaudry I’m exactly with you on the point. In my opinion, this season has been the best. Like I always say, Vikings has progressively got better and better with every season. And now that it has become a more popular and more viewed series, it’s getting more hate. Yeah it’s not perfect but it’s still fucking amazing. For Micheal Hirst to try and recreate something that’s happened more than 1000 years ago, come on. Give the guy some credit at least. He’s trying his best with every storyline and man I applaud him. I’m not saying this show is perfect, yes sometimes some scenes could be improved but this show is my favourite. Better than game of thrones. I could say a lot, especially regarding Aethelwulf but I don’t want to spoil anything. Man I love Vikings, I just don’t want people putting this show down. I think because it’s got more viewers, maybe many game of thrones fans are putting the show down which in my opinion is just not right. But I don’t know that for sure. I preferred it when it wasn’t as popular because nearly everyone loved the show regarding any flaws. Now it just seems to get more hate when this season has actually been amazing in my opinion.

I love Vikings and game of thrones, but your statement about which is better isn’t off. Game of thrones just has a movie budget which makes it so spectacular. Vikings is really good with the budget. In a couple years, if the show is still going on, Vikings will have the same budget.

I love that christmas/jul in the Nordic countries isn't based on Christianity. And Christmas in other countries comes from pegan tradition as well. But of course as with many things, Christianity wants to remove old tradition and take its place. Rollo learned the language too well too fast... So stupid. English and Norse is at least very close. That scene with Björn and the berserker was so bad, why was the big guy so weak and how could he disappear like Batman? How can you hate something that's fictional? You can hate a character but in this context where they don't believe in the Christian god, then saying you hate him makes no sense. Bad writing... The hell would she leave her son for some guy? Also where is Björn's daughter? WHY did you cut the part where Harald basically says he's there to take over?!
