So I doubt any of you are familiar with the late Michael Ansara He was in a bunch of stuff from the 60's onward. Most notable in my opinion are Kang one of the three featured Klingon Commanders from TOS. And a great detective show Called The Rockford Files where he played a reformed hood called Joey Blue Eyes. Speaking of the Files, Bob Hastings (Commissioner Gordan), Abe Vigoda, and dozens of other actors whom lend their voices to this show worked on The Rockford Files. James Gardner himself played his last role as Zeus in the Wounder Woman animated film.

Bruce Timm noted he had difficulty getting Michael Ansara to play it "flat" for the role of Freeze. "He was acting too much. It was really frustrating for him. He had never done cartoons before and an actor's first natural instinct is to act. He kept giving these line readings with all this inflection in them. I kept telling them that it had to be less, a lot less- like a robot. He kept saying it sounded so flat. Everybody else was looking at me too, and was asking me if I was sure. To them it sounded flat. I think it really sells it. I wanted his voice to sound like the Ebonites in that old The Outer Limits (1963) episode: 'Nightmare.' They sound real metallic and hollow. I even played that for him at the recording session, and explained that was what I wanted it to sound like. It drove the sound guys crazy doing it."

This episode is widely considered the best individual episode of Batman: The Animated Series. Some fans considered the execution for "Heart of Ice" to be "nearly flawless," with both comic and animation fans appreciating the revamp of the Mr. Freeze character. This episode provided such a burst in the popularity of the character that his comics' counterpart had his origins retconned to more closely resemble this episode. This brought about his resurrection in the comics and introduced Nora Fries to the comics as well. His origin was also used in the 1997 film Batman & Robin, which featured Mr. Freeze as one of its primary villains.

Personally, my favourite episode is "Almost Got 'Im". I love the unique nature of how it stands apart from the other episodes, with the villains just sitting around playing cards, telling stories about how they almost got Batman, and some of the little character details you notice like Two-Face drinking Half and Half, and having 2 2 cards are fantastic. Heart of Ice is probably the most meaningful, impactful episode, though.

The plot and premise of the episode are integrated into Mr. Freeze's origin in the 2011 video game Batman: Arkham City (also written by Paul Dini) - in one of his interview tapes with Hugo Strange, Freeze recounts the events that led him to become a supervillain and the story closely resembles the episode. I love this show for how they write Batman as a compassionate person towards the villains. He doesn't see them as irredemable monsters that always have been evil or destined to be evil. He sees them as people who, often by chance or the well..."one bad day" were driven towards doing those bad deeds. Yes, it was their choice ulitmetely, but at the same time it doesn't mean they don't deserve sympathy for things that happened to them BEFORE they made that turn. He knows how it feels bc he's been there. I think it's esp true with Mr.Freeze. Because Bruce became Batman in the first place bc he lost people he loved-his parents.

Am amazing episode, the Definitive Mr. Freeze that made him more than just a villain with a Cold Gun, and Mark Hamill's other performance in this series as the "Humanitarian" Boil

I went back to watch this episode and wow I completely forgot Rick was even in the reactions (not to be taken as an insult) and I know he said he wouldn’t be reacting to as much so since he’s seen this makes sense

The story that turned the lame Mr. Zero from the silver age into the Shakespearean tragedy that is Mr. Freeze. The fact that the comics took this origin into the main story really shows how awesome this show is. Bruce Timm and Paul Dini really flexed this time.

Except he was only Mr. Zero from 1959 to 1966 when he was retooled for the TV series (as "Dr. Art Schivel aka Mr. Freeze", with an Austrian German accent, and played by George Sanders, the voice of Shere Khan).

Batman and Robin was the first Batman movie I saw and I remember it from my childhood watching it on TV with my nerf gun pretending to be Mr. Freeze. I actually remember more of that movie than the Dark Knight. I fell asleep during the Nolan movies lol

This episode definitely came up with the backstory for Freeze. Before this in the comics he was just an ice-themed bad guy.

I hope that in the not too distant future they will make a joker type Mr Freeze movie he has a lot of potential for something like that they tell his heartbreaking story how he meets his wife he has a happy life until his wife has that disease and then he has that accident 💔❄️

I often thought one of the worst miscasting happen with arnold...I think Patrick Stewart could have pulled off the Tim Burton Mr. Freeze Properly in a live action show.
