He’s a great combination of a threatening power-set and decent motivations, but not so big that they need worry about using him up this early… It also highlights that the bigger-scale threats and characters will be coming up later and he’s just a taste of it.

It's even more interesting how each prison focus in most of the majority of each of the Avengers's rogues. Cube being a major villains from Hulk and Vault being guys with a hate for Iron-Man.

regarding Aaron's question about Whirlwind being a mutant, Marvel characters tend to refer to people who got powers by accident or outside forces as post-humans, para-humans, meta-humans, or super-humans. Mutant is a term they use usually for those humans specifically born with the X-gene whose powers emerge naturally later in life (so the X-Men and Magneto are mutants but Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four are superhumans). That's also why Fury said Whirlwind was a problem not for SHIELD but for the "Mardees", a reference to the Mutant Response Division (MRD).

Yeah they meet in a similar situation in the comics, in 616 Clint didn't worked for SHIELD, that was something the Ultimate Universe created which got adapted by the MCU, Clint was a circus performancer he saw Iron Man flying through the sky and got jealous of all the fame and attention he was receiving and decided to use his bow and arrow skills to became a masked vigilante to gain fame and glory but during his first patrol some cops saw him and confused him for a criminal which made him become a supervillain by accident and eventually fight Iron Man.

@Gabe600 Though this is one of those rare times comic Tony wasn't a complete dick. Hawkeye was one of the second team of Avengers, when Iron Man, Thor, Giant Man and Wasp left, Cap was the sole remaining Avenger. So they basically held a hero jobs fair. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, fresh from their break with the Brotherhood, decided to join to redeem themselves, and Iron Man personally recommended Hawkeye's entry to Cap. Fun fact, Hawkeye and Cap were my introduction to the Avengers through a video game. So when someone asks me who's been innthe Avengers, Captain America is the first name to pop in my head, and Hawkeye is the second.

I see it like this: Vault keeps tech based villains that you can mostly neutralize by just keeping their toys away from them Cube have tech to hold and reaserch gamma irradiated people (and also, i assume some people kept there emmit some sort of radiation so its better to keep them in place that can witheld that) and ideally it is also a place where they would find a cure for them (but well, it seems they also use this reaserch to make weapons) And then Big House keeps superpowered villains that you can't easily neutralize by taking their abilities away so especially somebody like Hank would think of rehabilitating them so maybe they can use those abilities for good (or at least, not for evil) And then Raft is a prison not everybody even knows about so they just keep there guys that they just wanted locked away and forgotten about

The guy who controls monkeys is Red Ghost, a Fantastic Four villain modeled after both the Space Race and the red scare. He is a Russian scientist who with a trio of monkeys travels to the moon and they all get unique powers which gives the scientist, The Red Ghost, his name for being able to walk through walls.

9:02 Red Ghost is an interesting one. Comic origin (so probably similar here) is that he sought to replicate the conditions that created the Fantastic 4, launching himself and 4 trained apes into space aboard a vessel that had comparably imperfect radiation shielding. Thus, he and his troupe gained superpowers! Not the same ones as the Fantastic 4 though.

There was quite a few Fantastic Four villains here. Eric mentioned Mad Thinker, who’s someone that’s able to calculate anything and everything down to the second, one of those “I’m smarter than Reed Richards, but not really” character. And the Red Ghost and his Super Apes also are fantastic four villains. The Red Ghost took his apes to space to try and recreate the cosmic ray exposure the FF went through, and got various powers

Spoiler free: The whiplash (lady in the lated outfit and whips) in the show could be the second whiplash from the comics who named Leeanne foreman Or the unnamed third whiplash from the comics Crimson dynamo who is a soviet scientist who created the crimson dynamo amour and has a grudge against iron man In the comics, crimson dynamo name is actually Anton vanko but in the show is named Ivan vanko (most likely to avoid confusion considering a random guy named Anton vanko who took up the mantle of whiplash around this time) Leonard Samson who in the comics was a friend of Bruce banner who like in the show got powers from gamma rays and became a hero calling himself doc samson

Normally it's something like alien invasion that forges such an epic superhero team. Mass villain breakout is a nice spin. Lets some major power houses off the chain to immediately cause problems, but also a status quo with others running off to go to ground, plot in their lairs, return to business as usual, and causing problems of less immediate priority.

The Vault villains are mostly tech based and as you can guess all involved with Iron-Man. Ice guy being good old Blizzard, Marvel's Captain Cold. My boi Crimson Dynamo, which is more famous due to Armor Wars, I think? The glowing guy is the bastard Living Laser. And yes, og Whiplash used to be a woman back in the old comics, not sure if it was the second movie that changed the more modern takes. Only one I don't recognize is the red and grey dude that was grabbing a shield, but I do remember his tech involves acid. Also, considering they already been watching Invincible and saw the snake villain, can't wait to find out who the Lizard League is based on
