For those confused: the original actor of Arjen wasn't available for Season 4 of The Expanse (a show being uncertain if it will even continue will do that), so they had to replace him.

I wouldn't want a recast for what happens in the fifth season. I think they did the best they could with the circumstances. Arjen I would have really liked the original actor I loved their chemistry.

The protomolecule has a balancing/optimisation problem with HoloMiller. It needs Miller's skills as an investigator (to discover what happened to its creators), and his personality (as a way of communicating with Holden), so it has to imbue HoloMiller with a lot of Miller's memories and personality. But the more of Miller's memories and personality it gives HiloMiller, the more HoloMiller begins to have its own Miller-like agenda, which may conflict with the protomolecule's agenda. So HoloMiller oscillates between being more Miller-like and more robotic...

In the books, Lucia is the mother of Katoa, the child on Ganymede that was experimented on by Dr. Strickland to turn into Proto Soldiers, and she and her Husband feel consequently extremely protective of their remaining children and don't want to go back to the system that took their home and their child and their rights. They're on Ilus to stay, and will do anything in their power to remain there and create a new life.

I read a lot of transhuman fiction, so the whole Miller thing is very familiar. Imagine you have nothing remotely like humanity, and want to interact with humans. So you copy a human, tweak it a bit, and have it work with the humans. But there's a conflict... you have your own agenda. You also don't understand humans much. So there's a play between making the agent more human vs. serve your interests.

the proto molecule technology is so advanced that it was able to download every memories and whatever makes Miller himself at the moment of his death. it also activated millions of "switches" in Holden's brain to make him see Miller and talk to him. and if we take in account that the proto molecule can literally build anything from any matter, we could assume that it would be capable, if it wanted to, to recreate a new body for Miller so he could be "alive" again. the more we see Miller the more he's changing. at first he was like a pawn or a messenger. but the more he interacts with Holden, it's like he's accessing more and more memories. it makes me think of Matrix, like he's now a rogue program that escaped the control of the creator and he's starting to think for himself like he's alive and continuing his previous life with his own objectives.

Fun fact - the Ilus biom now contains 3, maybe 4, most likely 5 bioms: Ilus' original flora and fauna, the Protomolecule structures, human biom (bacteria, waste etc) as well as *original+Protomolecule* and last but not least, whatever killed the Protomolecule hive mind and still resides somewhere on the planet. The human interaction with several different bioms was originally planned to be contained by a dome, which the scientists were planning to work and study in, but the destruction of the ship torpeded that plan and increased the unshielded human interaction with potentially dangerous bacteria and diseases. Kinda like the new settlements in North America. Humans are walking bodies of water and salt, such basic necessities of life, very tempting to any bacteria from Ilus, regardless which biom.

Think of Illus as Earth if Pheobe hit Earth. Everything died on the Planet and life had to begin anew. Now Evolution had a new component with the Protomolecule. Also I always thought that there was a reason they made these lightning bolts since one of the theories of the beginning of life on earth had lightning as the energy component for the chemical reaction. Would be pretty a pretty awesome detail

Wrong. Once the ring gates are open, the viewer knows we're travelling inside the Builder Empire. It would be like travelling through the remains of the Roman Empire in the case no people was left but super advanced. Illos was a Builder planet to serve a purpose in the grid, the biosphere evolved over the Builder remains but unrelated to them or the protomolecule which is a computerized fabric to build anything the Builders decided during their lifetime based on their own requisites and needs.

SPOILER ALERT - The bolts have an explanation. - - - - - - The Miller of the Books hints the purpose of Illos along its moons, all the system is a massive generator, one of many, which powers other planetary systems in the Rings' Network of that civilization. Everything that happens from the bolts, like the start plug of a car, the failure of human reactors when creates an exotic distortion field, a planet with huge deposits of lithium which is a component of batteries...then the sum of all degradation and malfunctions like the explosion of a structure in the other side of the planet due to overheat and the melting of the moon, damaged by the Rocinante when uses the main gun to get backwards impulse.

The proto molecule needs Holden, so it has to make Miller more genuine, but also Holden didn't have a real life relationship with any of the 100k others, so there was no point in reviving anyone else.

Oh I thought the 3 biomes were, 1 the first naturally evolved life, then the protomolecule came and it ate(?) that biome creating the second. Then the third biome was a naturally re evolved life after the protomolecute stopped or whatever.

The protomolecule was the first (to the extent we know Illos might not even be a natural planet). In case it was terraformed and according to how the protomolecule works, nothing was left from the previous biosphere. First came the Builders and its mechanoids, then they went extinct, evolution took place and came the "roots" and lizards, and stuff and now humans.

Eric says at 8:06 that the aspect ratio change between scenes back in our Solar System and those on Ilus/New Terra is awesome, and then Calvin says “it’s wide open” to which Eric starts singing “With Arms Wide Open” by Creed as a joke. This is the song which is played at 16:30 when the object is activated and the thunderstorm starts. This was presumably done by the editor as both a callback to Eric’s joke and because the rocks and beaches scenery under a thunderstorm are together all very reminiscent of some of the shots in the music video for “With Arms Wide Open” with rocks, beaches and thunderstorms of their own. (as an aside, that song fit with the ending of this episode way better than I expected it to 😂)

The recasting of Arjun is the worst thing this show ever did - if you need to do it, okay, but the character seems like a totally different person now. Edit: I mean the choice of actor, as well as the writing, which in tandem make him seem like a completely different person. They could have easily found someone more similar to the previous Arjun.
