Happy Sunday Crew!
In this weeks video we find "blisters" in our bottom job, realize we have missing parts on the standing rigging, and try to decide what size anchor we should buy.

Hi! I just watched Colin's episode (Parlay Revival, but you probably know that) where he had to do some repairs at the top of his mast. If I had a boat.. (I don't) and I had the mast on the ground... I would add footholds to the top and a place to clip my harness into, so I could stand up at the top of the mast above where the halyard would allow, so I could see and work on the stuff at the top. Just a random thought, because everyone seems to have to replace hard to reach things that, they can't see, at the top of the mast at some point.

Great suggestions Divekat, I was just about to make a seperate post with same suggestion. I did this on my old cats and it makes a world of difference when working at top of mast. You do need a belt to hold you in close to the mast but gee it makes such a difference.

Ha! Great suggestion! I actually did that on this mast. 2 folding foot pegs and two grab handles. I can’t wait to use them.

It was really nice meeting you guys at Sharky's! I put a 100 lb Ultra Marine Anchor on my 47ft cat. Really like the way it sets and holds. You are welcome to come barrow it to see how it might fit in the L50.

Hi Ty, those flood lights look exactly like some I have, if they are the same, they aren’t very good. Have you tested the light pattern? If not, please do before you put the mast on! You might regret them! Love your videos!!!

Another great video and very intrigued for next with the lightening deterrent system! We have a L50 arriving in June, (Doug is our sales manager), we are from Castle Rock Colorado and are always interested in what's next for the Dauntless Crew. We'll be at MIBS from Thursday to Sunday and would love to meet in person.

there should not be tape around vhf cable connection. water gets under anyway and stays longer, rain des not wash, the contact point is wet longer. unless it is not heat shrink with glue, the rest is only worse

Surely at some point I would think anchor weight and size becomes too big when it is not required and is only adding unnecessary weight.

Why does the mast need a bend and rake
@btrotta
@btrotta Жыл бұрын
Pre-bend helps with the shape of the sails. Pre-bend, combined with a sail cut to use that pre-bend, allows you to flatten the shape of the main to reduce power in higher winds by increasing the tension on the backstay. Since most catamarans don't have backstays, you set your pre-bend by adjusting the rigging as Ty is doing in this video. Mast rake allows you to move the center of effort for the sails relative to the position of the keel(s). Generally, the more rake you have the more weather helm you have. In boats that sail heeled over, like monohulls, it is usually faster upwind to have more rake in light air and less in heavy. Rake is usually set by moving the position of the base of the mast fore and aft.

You are criticizing the manufacture of your boat. I thought they were so kind to you during the repair period? Do they supply bad anchors on their boats?
