Damn I really like this older style of graphics and level creation. There's so much more potential to put in personal artistic touches. I like how you can just use vertex colors to paint in lighting and effects and break up the sameness of the textures and suggest lighting or detail. I don't really feel much of anything when I look at all the incredible near-photorealistic assets and lighting of modern engines and games, but this really does it for me. It has obvious style and charm and you can feel the human touch to it because it was all painted and placed deliberately by somebody.
