This video made me giggle. I have a friend that ALWAYS has multiple quilts under construction at the same time. She does beautiful work including handwork. She also works on very complicated patterns. I tell her, “ I shall take two aspirin ; cheer you on before I go take a nap.” We have been friends forever and this is an ongoing joke. Love all your beautiful projects. You are inspiring!

I'm an overachiever. I have 18 cross stitch projects, 2 crochet, 6 quilting, 2 epp, and 4 genealogy projects going all at the same time. I sometimes feel like I am drowning. I just had surgery on my right wrist and could only design, so I ended up designing almost 20 quilting projects. 😨😱

I had to pack up my six current projects for a few weeks as I had carpal tunnel surgery on my right wrist today. My thumb and first three fingers have been numb for past four weeks making it a huge challenge to finish a binding. Can’t feel the needle! Doctor said if healing goes well I should feel the needle in about six weeks. In the meanwhile I’m reading several different books. Multitasking is my way! Loved seeing all your active projects….fun, fun! Can’t wait to get back to mine. Left wrist surgery October 24, then back to needling full time! Yeah!! Happy 4th and enjoy the long weekend. I try to keep one active project and one or two in planning/concept stage. But thanks to my daughter I now have 2for her in planning with another non-quilt project along with my own one in process, one at binding point, and several QOVs in planning stage. I have panels for about 9 others - some QOVs, some for fun, some National Parks. But pretty much not sewing. Spouse is ill, so being a caretaker is taking up all my time. 😆🤪😳 Haha. I could never have multiple projects going at one time. I can’t even think about starting a new quilt until the current one is completely finished including all of the quilting, the sleeve attached, binding and the label. Also must do all of the photos and note taking. I quilt all of my own quilts. The thought of multiple quilts finishing around the same time would over whelm me with having to quilt three quilts in a row. Then binding three quilts in a row. Plus I’m sure one of the multiple projects would get a little frustrating and I might just avoid it. I am impressed with people that enjoy several projects going. Good for all of you… as long as you complete them and not just starting them.😁

I want to understand why you work on so many projects at once. Is it because of your personal preference? Do you get bored if not enough variety? Or is this because you want your channel to be "punchy"? To have different projects to keep us all interested and be sure you have something for all of us so WE don't get bored? Just trying to understand.

Thanks for the snap shot of your brain. That looks like my work life. Juggling 15 or more things at once. Quilting is my refuge and I don't have a sewing room. Everything has to fit under my bed :). I enjoy working on one project at a time and I can fantasize about it during my work day about how much I will get done each week. I must admit, I have so much waiting in my queue, because I am so slow, that stresses me out :). I still work to a deadline a lot. It seems like I always have to finish by someone's birthday, Father's day or a holiday etc. So it is more difficult to get to the "fun" projects. But I don't think I would be more efficient if I was retired :). I am keeping up with my first QAL (yours and Wendy's xmas all year) and that is my first multi-task quilt project and jumping back and forth is not easy for me.

Your dress matches the first BOM. I live on Cape Cod - there is seafood everywhere. I've even gone down and met a fishing boat for fresh fish. Probably my favorite place is Sir Cricket in Orleans. W e get the seafood platter and take it across the street where we sit by the water's edge to eat and I usually do some EPP and Murphy's fabrics is just a couple of blocks away. I am currently working on 6 projects. Dear Jane is a long-term project, I usually have a couple of UFOs to get to tops, one to quilt, and a leader/ender as well as my EPP that I work on away from the house.

Oh my fried clams my fav, there is a place on the Ocean in NS Canada we await their opening every spring, Diane’s restaurant in Economy, NS, Canada. The meaty ones are called while clams, the whole thing. Behind the restaurant is their clam factory where they get the clams right in the water there, process in the factory, and take some to the restaurant. Last time we were there I saw a gal all dressed in white gear arrive and drop off a container of clams to the restaurant. Now they don’t get any fresher than that!! Oatmeal maybe u mean clam strips which are just pats of the clams and much milder. We all here like the whole clams so we get the full flavor. One of the treats of living on the ocean in Nova Scotia.

Fried Clam Day is definitely my kind of day!! I’m a New England gal at heart, grew up with Maine Lobster, sea scallops, haddock and FRIED CLAMS - the “real” fried clams with the whole belly (as they say). In Florida, if you live around the Silver Springs Park area there is Lena’s from September until end of June. They also have their place in Salisbury Mass (not sure what the schedule is) and It is our favorite place for New England fried clams!!

So when you work on multiple projects, how do you decide when to stop and work on the other one? I have three going on now, but that was only because I took a couple of classes and we did a few blocks so my problem is when do I stop working on one to work on another and the other?
@PatSloan

I have a schedule that I do for my videos, which is my calendar. Have you downloaded it? If it is Wed, then i am making the Wed block. If it is a monthly project, then i make that one on the day needed to film it. Since you are not filming you can do an entirely different process than I do. Do you want to just work all the way through? Do you get bored so work 2 days on one, then switch? Work style is personal. Its is not a formula. Does that makes sense?

I have 2 BOM and a temperature quilt going, which leaves room for another quilt to be worked on. So I have 4 quilts going at a time (not counting bindings). I used to have a lot more going on at one time, but I pared it down. I noticed that I was feeling anxious about keeping up with the various QAL and zooming through the non-QAL projects so that I could get both types of projects done. It just wasn’t enjoyable.after awhile so I changed it up.

Pat, thought you'd like to know that I've seen your "Oh My Stars" pattern in 2 different people's videos this week. One was kitted up to be made at a retreat, and the other was sewn up in a big quilt with gold stars. Fun to see! I like having several projects on my design wall too, especially when blocks are already ironed. My Christmas in July border strips are pinned up--vertically and horizontally so I don't forget which way they'll go in the quilt. I always have multiple projects going on because I find/start something new before I get the old finished. 🤣 I use your monthly calendar to write quilt names that I'm working on in one corner, and each day that I work on one I put a star beside the name. It's a good reminder and makes me feel good to see the stars. Happy Independence Day everyone!

I’m counting 9 as I’m looking at this video;) In the past I would work on one project at a time until I finished it but then if I needed more fabric or something for it I would start a new project. I enjoy both ways, working on one until completion if I gave all the supplies and moving from project to project. I have found though that projects take me longer if I move from one to the other. I tend to get into detail sometimes and second guess my fabric choice, pattern or quilting design and then I put the project aside.

I only have one project on my design wall at the present, but I have other projects displayed on my futon. 3 quilts in piecing stage, plus my ongoing 2” squares quilt. One UFO in a box. And getting ready to go on a quilt retreat next week, so planning what I want to take with me to do - planning to use some left over fabrics for a scrappy quilt and a red and white quilt for my bed, maybe spools. So, four active, one stalled and a couple in planning stage. That’s enough for me.

Very much agree with your thoughts about fading fabrics and needing to be overly cautious with them. That 'fear' takes away all the joy we are supposed to be having with our beautiful fabrics. Love all parts of being a quilter except the anxiety of feeling like I should be doing anything in particular. Over the years I have learned to relax and enjoy, because all cotton fabrics will have a 'life'. Cotton fabric is biodegradable. It just will degrade over time, light or no light. Enjoy it now, no worries. Thanks for raising the topic!

First ,the clams I love in chowder or baby clams gently cooked in butter! Second I can only focus on one quilt at a time, more and I forget things . I have started more than one but they tend to end up waiting till I complete one. ❤

I can only do one project at a time. My brain... I always will wash my quilt and shams together so they fade the same. Never had fabric fade as bad as Pat's example!

Look forward to watching you every day ,so enjoyable. I iron my spray basted quits before spraying and after , it seems to relax the fabric to lay flatter.

I have not done a lot of fried clams. I grew up in the Napa valley area in california. I would go clam digging with my uncle in Bodega bay. I know one brand of clams we would get were the Washington long necks . I can't remember the other one there were two we would get. I love to make homemade clam chowder I planned on doing that tonight or tomorrow

I usually only do one project at a time because I don’t have space for more. So, I’m jelly of your sewing room with tables and design wall and all the ease.
