On this Shropshire journey I explore the mainly quarry railways in the borders area to the north west of Llanymynech. In part one I look at the line to Blodwell Junction that branches off the former Oswestry to Welshpool line.

Absolutely fascinating. Thank you. I walked many miles of disused lines in my youth. I'm amazed there is still track in position!

Nice vid mate. I remember my Dad saying he had been to Blodwell. He was a Driver at Shrewsbury for years. Nice to see where he had been. I also remember the talk of Bin Trains coming from Manchester, using the Quarry as a Land Fill site . 👍

Hi Holden I really enjoy your videos only one problem...there aren't enough! Just one question about this video the green shunter loco at 7:48 looks to be in good working order but the track looks unused particularly earlier on in the video?
@holdenwebs6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that great comment. A busy professional job and other commitments prevent me from doing them too often unfortunately. You are correct, all the track is now unused since its release from network rail in the late 80's.
@joewalker97606 жыл бұрын
The shunter has been restored but is now a bit further up the line. A few other shunters have been rearranged on that loop too. The restored shunter still has fuel in it when I last went here
@holdenwebs6 жыл бұрын
Would be great to see it working

The cab has a sign saying 'restored by Andrew Briddon' I believe. Yes, It would be great to see it in action. There is plenty of stuff there to shunt around. Just on the junction with the Nantmawr branch there is an old yard for the quarry nearby and has old freight wagons and the yard has a number of truck bodies used as sheds. If you like tea there is a box of PG tips in the Blodwel station end cab of that yellow track maintenance locomotive

I can see the train tracks are still here

Where the disused line remains with the track still there, is there any chance that it will be saved do you know?
@holdenwebs7 жыл бұрын
There are no plans to lift the tracks as far as I know.

Mike Stacey the cambrian heritage railways want to extend the line from Oswestry to Llynclys and use the section from Llynclys to llanyblodwel as a heritage railway
