In the 1980s my wife had a habit of copying the looks of various singers ranging from Paula Abdul, Juice Newton & Alison Moyet to Kim Wilde, but she did Debbie Harry best, and copied that dress for our wedding, and oh boy, did she wear it well. Happiest day of my life.

Blondie covered so many types of music. They came from punk roots, typified New Wave, touched on rap, and as this song shows, flirted with disco.

My parents knew her parents when I was growing up. I was pretty little, but I thought it was the neatest thing that her parents would tell me all sorts of little things about her. It was such a big deal to be able to tell my friends that. She was touring at that time, but it was fun to hear all about her and growing up.

My favorite Blondie song is by far "Call me". I don't like "Heart of glass" as much but I love Debbie's voice in this song. I love the high notes that women can achieve and Debbie does a superb job of it in this song.

I saw this 41 years ago Saturday morning, my junior year of hs. Good band, they kind of went from being punk to or disco-ish, but fun music. The real band that broke in '78 (of many) were The Danmed, their album "Machine Gun Etiquette" was phenomenal. Fuck me I'm old now 😭

Haven't you seen videos of this band strumming mic cords pretending it was a bass? They mocked the acting out thing on pre recorded music.

As far as I know, nobody performed live on American Bandstand. However, that’s not uncommon on TV performances. They usually tape the performance in a studio and then play back while on stage with live mic to pick up the audience. I once went to a taping of the Johnny Cash show in the 70’s. Kenny Rogers and the First Edition we’re performing a medley of their hits and it took 3 takes mostly because the drummer kept accidentally either hitting a drum or cymbal.

Live versions suck. They are never mixed right, they rush through it. They usually sound like it is all playing through a cheap tweeter. Plus the musician are all high.

Michael, how old are the Rolling Stones? I completely agree with you. 34 is old for Rock. This is why many musicians evolve but when you're under contract with the devil you sing what the devil says when the devil says while dressed like the devil says. Eva Cassidy under advice from Mic Fleetwood, went to N.Y. to have a meet with the record companies. She walked out. Mic never brought up the subject again out of respect for the FREE will of a great talent. Until the day she crossed the road she sang what she wanted when she wanted and didn't dress like a teenager either.
