Who would have thought it, but most people grow up with the image of red, green and floral clothing from the Northeast as old-fashioned and ugly. But now instead, they are used as the local iconic pattern, along with a variety of creative works and clothing. This pattern is really ushering in a total victory after many years. The two girls are really quite cute in their red and green floral hats

hey fellow Konger. as a former Canadian who has lived in Dalian and visits Siberia in winter for fun, i recommend wear a surgical mask behind a good thick scarf. it'll help with breathing, both for temperature and moisture retention. also get used to using moisturizing facial masks when you're back in the hotel at night. vaseline on the hands. if it gets below -20, exposed skin can easily start cracking. knuckles can begin to bleed just from opening and closing your hands. eyelashes can break off between the moisture of your breathe and the freezing cold air. just some friendly advice. enjoy Dongbei.

“Lao mao zi” is how the early settlers in Dongbei called the Russian people who came across the border to settle or trade, can be loosely translated into “the hairy dudes/people”😂, might sound not as PC in this day and age but the Chinese people use it in a non-derogatory and lighthearted way today.
@mchparity4 ай бұрын
I mean, HKers still use the G word. Dongbei, esp Heilongjiang, still uses 'er mao zi' too in day to day convo. I'd say it's still very much derogative. But it's a fact of life in such homogenous societies.

The sausages in Harbin is actually Ukrainian. In the 19th century, imperial Russia moved a large population of Ukrainians and others from eastern Europe to east Asia, in order to consolidate control over the area. Ukrainian migrants brought their cuisines with them, and thus, the sausages.

To answer your question, when you eat cold things in summer your body wants to warm you up. Therefore hot drinks etc cool you down. This is possibly why Chinese eat cold in winter to warm up.

Even for like 30-40 years ago most family don't have their own refrigerator so the best time for them to enjoy ice cream is winter time, like Amy said in the video" no need for a freezer". That is the main reason.

There are so many different dishes and types of food from different parts of China. With it being so cold all the food for Spring Festival can be stored in the back porch. Since the introduction of the Wildlife Protection Law in China, Northeast Chinese cuisine has been in name only because most of its main ingredients are wild animals, such as bear's paw and hazel chicken, which are protected animals and cannot be eaten now. Half of the recipes in Northeast Chinese cuisine are protected wild animals, so there are not many famous dishes in Northeast China nowadays
