Really liked this episode. As an oversea chinese born in Latam and with family from GZ, since my childhood I was constantly made fun of what "chinese", specially cantonese people, eat. I learned to embrace it and just tell them that they are just so soft and culturally never learned to survive under harsh conditions and make weird things to taste acceptable, even good. Glad to have this channel being so open minded and always presenting things in a respectful manner for people to learn.

“Heat" in TCM is not literal heat. It's the status of your body when it's burning reserve energy. When your body burns its reserve energy, you get symptoms related to your immune system such as acne, bleeding nose, and not sleeping well among others. And the herb tea like any other Chinese medicine, does not work like a painkiller. It regulates your body's internal status so it takes a while for the effect to show. If it stops the pain immediately, question what's in it. The merchant may have smuggled in some painkiller pills in it. (It is not that it is known that some merchants do it; it is just that it is NOT supposed to be effective immediately like a painkiller. It's a regulation process and it can take several hours to a day for you to notice any difference.)

Happy to finally hear Peter speaking Cantonese. Knowing he's a local (so is my maternal side). It has been missing in these Guangzhou adventures so far! I've been to that Ze Ze restaurant and can't recommend it enough!
@peterzhou3722 күн бұрын
Peter speaks Cantonese natively but the issue is that sometimes you are not sure whether you can talk to people on the street in Guangzhou in Cantonese without any context, or you may come across someone from a non-Cantonese region who does not even understand what you're saying. That's why Peter usually start the conversation in Mandarin until he finds a trait in the other person's accent suggesting they are Cantonese speaker as well.
