Blood Bowl 3 - A basic overview of the game.

Is Blood Bowl 3 a game for you? In this video I'll go over the basics of Blood Bowl, to hopefully give you an idea of what to expect.

Agreed, the UI/UX is disappointing at best and completely broken at worst on Playstation 5. I can't even recommend the game to friends until they do some patching.

I talked a bit about it on stream on Tuesday, but my very tired take is that I did not expect any more features at launch than we got. Would I have liked more, yes. Did I expect more, no. It was clear that BB3 was intended to be a GaaS, and I am not sure why so many assumed it wouldn't be. When it comes to bugs it seems like Cyanide is decently quick at fixing them, with that said, it's totally fair to wait to buy before the game is more stable.

@@mikejewrll6545 I can't assure you will like it, that is personal taste, but you will understand it for sure. It's an "easy to learn hard to master" game. In 5 to 10 games you will get a pretty solid understanding of the rules.

Im brand new and never even watched a game of American football. This video was really helpful! i just played a few games and got absolutely slaughtered i feel im making many mistakes but learning at the same time. A video on the nuisances of creating a team (for a noob) and info on player death/ staff recruitment and managing money best would be extremely useful if you feel like making it :) - Again great video!

If it makes you feel better it's almost nothing like American football. Drives me crazy that they market it that way and reviewers repeat it. It's more like Rugby, but with a few football aspects thrown in.

Hey @cKnoor how do the single player features look this time around? I recall from BB:CE and BB2 that the AI was, well, lacking in turn awareness and generally not great :) . Any ideas on how the AI stacks up in BB3? Any idea if local hotseat mixed with AI teams is an option for hotseat multiplayer?

I have no idea, I don't plan on playing much SP. When it comes to the AI my understanding is that it's really hard to make a good AI for something like Blood Bowl.

The AI is about the same as in 2, except that it no longer takes 5 minutes to decide on every single turn like in BB2, it decides waaaay faster. And yeah BB is notoriously difficult to program AI for, exponentially harder than to program AI to play Go or Chess. Which is why it is used in a yearly AI programming competition.

Thanks for this. Complete noob and trying to figure out what the hell to do. The tutorial was fine for basic actions but any sort of strategy help would have been greatly appreciated. Any recs for videos on how to strategize in this game?

For general strategy you can still look at my previous Blood Bowl 2 tutorials. Some rules are different but most are similar. I'll make some general guides later, but I need to play the game a bit first :P

Is any great reason the tedious declaration before actions must be in the game? It breaks the flow of a Turn-Based-Game even more. Amazing videos about blood bowl 2 btw and hopefully 3.

This is a hold over from how things work in tabletop. Some skills, like Dump off and Disturbing Presence, activate at the point of action declaration and so it does have a purpose.

Agreed, that seems to make it unusually complex and unfair. In tabletop and previous editions, you don't have to announce your every action for every player. You just use the actions available, meaning you can react on the fly instead of telegraphing literally every little thing. I hope they remove that, or at least give us an option in the future to turn that off. What an annoying addition.

As an experienced BB2 player but with almost no knowledge about the current set of rules, one question: I thought in BB3 you could use as many rerolls as you want? But for one missed roll one can only use one reroll, right? Although the player can use more rerolls in the same turn if the first reroll was successful?

That is correct, you can use several team rerolls in a turn, but you can only reroll any dice once.

I'm stoked for what this game may become in the future, but the Overwhelmingly Negative reviews on Steam point out a LOT of things being broken. Apparently, many skills simply aren't implemented like Multiple Block and Bombardier, and some even lock up the game. Will wait for a few patches before I dive in.

Just started and picked up blood bowl 2 and three. They were both on sale. I still need to know how to really manage a team I'm basically guessing, but because of this, I went with humans right after the tutorial, which really wasn't that good at explaining. I really don't understand how many players I should have. I bought the I think it was blood orc or black orc something pack. But I thought the game would go into detail about how to manage it. A friend I had in the army and we still talk told me about this becouse he knew I loved Warhammer. But I've never hears about this strongly enough. He then told me I could "upgrade" them didn't tell me how or which ones to do it to. I'm not even sure how to "play with that team or earn them money." There is a sponsor mode it says I can do. I'm guessing the pack I got on Playstation unlocked all the colors and emblems and stuff, but I don't know if it even matters which ones I picked. I picked balanced becouse I had no clue how to "staff a team". But honestly your the first account that hasn't sounded like you were speaking a diffrent language. So I'm probably going to he looking through seeing if I can find anything about management.

You earn money after each game, your players earn XP (called SPP in Blood Bowl) after each game, and you can level up your players once they have gotten a certain amount of XP. The amount different depending on how many level ups they have. You need 6 SPP to be able to pick a "Primariy" skill for the first level for each of your players.

Pre-ordered and played a bit. Haven’t played the tabletop game in ages so was more than a bit lost. I’m now worried about what I’m hearing about the game. I played on Xbox but is the Steam version as bad as I am hearing? Going to buy it in Steam too.

Been playing the Xbox version the past 2 days or so and it's a bit of a wreck. I've had a lot of glitches and problems. On top of that so much is a step backward from 2, like the entire menu system, customization, animation timing, far less readable in game UI, microscopic text on-screen you can barely read, even harder to interpret iconography, actions happening on screen before it even shows dice results etc... Other than the better rule system its a bit of a letdown so far EDIT: I should mention they've done server side fixes at least twice the past 2 days and it's slowly getting better glitch wise, but we'll see if the rest gets improved, at least to BB2 standards

Anyone know if the console versions allow for any kind of meaningful couch multiplayer? By meaningful I mean in some kind of league that actually awards SPP. I recall not being able to do this effectively in BB2. Where the wife and I can play against each other on the couch and gain spp. Matches of just starting teams with no spp gain feel really stale.

Don't think there will be one, BB3 has A Battle Pass. so you'll either have to pay a lot of money, or play against Filthy Knife-Ears Until you can unlock them. they probably won't be released anytime soon, they gotta Get all the Agility Teams and Knife Ears out to maximize money.

BB2 dice are actually more random than actual real life D6 dice, but there are certainly times when it doesn't feel like that.

I've never even clicked on those bottom options like he did. So for example I never even knew you could get the passing template on-screen.

I would recommend watching at least one other cKnoor played game of Blood Bowl 2 to get a handle on the mechanics. The rules are fairly deep but cKnoor has the right mindset and a fair attitude when playing. He takes his losses and wins graciously. He is also quite good in general at strategic thinking when it comes to this game.

I heard they delayed the game by 2 years not to implement bug fixes or add features... but to add a "micro" Transaction store just to add customisation in exchange for real cash... $750 to fully unlock all customisations for a SINGLE team with terrible presets... is also a joke. 1 Cheerleader unless you pay more. No customisation unless you pay more. Unstable servers. Limited teams. They tried that crap with BB2... and had to give away the extras as few were buying, fewer were playing and almost none were giving good reviews. Do they think over time we will just accept greed and laziness? Nah... they will learn the hard way every time that people not accepting that crap are growing... not shrinking. I'm good thanks, i'll stick to BB2.

I think the actual cost for a full set is 50 bux, I don't think you do your argument any favors by mistating a cost like that. All it does is make it easier for others to dismiss your argument. What about other sets, substitutes, field customisation, ball customisation, additional cheerleaders and upcoming legendary sets? I can literately buy a physical team, board and paints, physically own them and fully customise them MY way for less than $50... As for the BB2 story... that's the "official" reason to not pee off the people who pre-ordered... it's not the reality. The reality is 2 weeks after release, because they paid for so many licences... they were practically giving them out in shops as they were not selling. Most BB2 players got it at 50%+ discount and with ALL upcoming dlc for free... Because all the copies were pre-order copies long after release.

The official unpainted teams cost exactly 50 bux on the GW store. But even if I was to agree with your math, then you're off by 10x by claiming 750 bux. The full Second Season set is 160 bux, which is way to expensive and doesn't excuse BB3's pricing, but once again, buy fudging your numbers you make an argument that is easier to dismiss. Also for BB2, I was there remember? Like I know what happened. I have the videos, expansions being cheaper for people who owned the previous iteration of BB2 was a tradition carried forward from BB1. It was not a new thing for BB2. Also when saying "they" paid for so many licenses. Do you think Focus Home had a license agreement with GW that only allowed them to seel a certain number of BB2 copies?

Why play a buggy game with half the teams missing, only one stadium and half the skills don't work, a game where you are going to have to shell out more cash to unlock more teams just to have access to the teams you already have on Blood Bowl 2? Makes zero sense. Also encourages corporate greed.

Considering it's a new ruleset, none of them teams in BB2 are the same as the ones in BB3, a lot are similar. But currently if you want to play with BB2020 rules it's either BB3 or FUMBBL. As far as I've seen it's just reports of Bombadier and Multiple Block not working, and I am not even sure there is a star player available that uses either of those. But yes, it's pretty similar to BB2 launch.

BB3 looks a lot more readable than I felt the last game was. I don't know what it was, but something in blood bowl 2 it always felt hard for me to read the field properly, tell what was going on at a glance.

Love the Thumb nail. Blood Bowl 3 what is it? A mess, the football version of Diablo Immortal, The same game with a different title version of Madden.. It's already the worst game of 2023 imagine having to pay an arm and a leg for a yep one arm or one leg that you can only use once on one player in one team Now that's a lottta ones.
