Every time I think of Maddy played by Jennifer Connelly I always think my photojournalist professor Dr B. My professor is a photojournalist who have spent extensive time covering Mexico and Guatemala.

A rare scene of political discussion in this particularly violent movie. But this scene does have good meaningful dialogue. Archer: "American?" Maddy: "Guilty" Archer: "Americans usually are." Archer: "You've come here to make a difference?" Maddy: "And you're here to make a buck?" Archer: "I'm here for lack of as better idea." Archer: "You come here with lap top computer, malaria medicine and little bottles of hand sanitizer and think you're going to change the outcome." "Were in business together; get over yourself darling." Maddy: "Yeah, it's a shit-shit world, but you know what? Good things are done everyday, just apparently, not by you."

You forgot every "huh" at the end of most of Archer's lines...lol....but I agree, very good dialogue!!

Soon as he drops on her the truth bomb, she begins attacking him. Truth is Maddy would be wearing a blood diamond on her wedding day, or attending someone's wedding with people wearing blood diamonds. Archer is a businessman, Maddy is a hypocrite and a desperate careerist.

Also a larger reference to how American corporate interest and greed is deadly to people who are not as lucky and they're willing to kill their own brethren for mere crumbs of the pie which is showcased by the rebels treatment of the civilians and the human cost of civil war.
