Oh that is *_Great_* !! Much, _much_ better than the improvised crud I used for the one & only time I used my rod. I look forward to using this next season, as we're currently frosted here this morning in Minnesota, and the weather radar is showing snow in the air. I'm up to 10 flies in my collection, 5 or 6 of which I learned to tie from you right here ! Another clear and informative video. Thanks !!

I was having trouble tying it starting out with the right over the left so I switched it and now I can spin the line around just like I’ve been doing all my life. But I’ve been intimidated by the blood knot forever and without this video I would have never conquered my fear. Thank you!

Many thanks for this, I've almost got the blood knot so I can tie it streamside-still need practice and to come back to this video at the moment as I still get it wrong sometimes, when tying up rigs at home, I make a smooth blob over the knot with UV resin, this makes it go the through the guides even easier.

Using 2 different color ropes was perfect to show the sequence on how the string would be tied and tightened. I'm new to braided line and was told about this knot today on how to attach my leader line. Thank you for the tutorial.

Really top notch video on the blood knot!! It is really important to do as in the video. I have waisted yards of monofilament practicising and failing on the last step, which is tightening up the knot with both tag ends: I was pulling both of them in the wrong direction (the yellow end to the left and the red one to the right), and this will undo the knot instead of tightening it. It may be obvious to most people, it wasnt' to me :-). Thanks and keep posting!

Another great video, thanks. I spent the better part of an afternoon this winter learning the blood knot so I could then tie my own leaders. One thing I learned is if you have too big a gap between thickness of the two lines (say 20LB test for one and 8 LB on the other) the knot won't work. Gary Borger suggests using more wraps on the thinner side to compensate, but I found it difficult. Still, I agree it's a beautiful, compact knot. However, on the river dealing with finicky tailwater fish and 6x or smaller tippet I revert back to a triple surgeons. Dave

this video is where i learned to tie blood knots, i was doing albright knots before, and love this knot a lot more. in the past year ive come to start nipping with about 1/16 inch of tag end, maybe a hair more, then lightly melting it with a lighter before mushing it down with a wet finger, it really makes the knot smoother. be careful not to burn the knot though!
@LC-xd9zb4 жыл бұрын
Nice video. Fortunate to stumble on this one looking for a blood knot how-to. I like how the RH line comes back to the middle and passes up (not down) - this seems more natural to start (IMHO). Most of the step-by-step diagrams show the RH line coming back to the middle and down - both achieve the same knot. I'll just have to remember my leader line being the RH line (for some reason I always mentally think of my hook end on my left). Echo kudos on starting with rope and then working to real line.

I truly dislike tying blood knots, but they're the only game in town where stepped leaders are concerned (in my opinion). I always have to find this video when I set up a new fly rig or need to change/repair an older setup. Yeah, I'm knot-challenged like that. Many thanks for the video! Cheers!

Thank you for another great video. I was curious to know if you use the Albright knot ever. I found the blood knot challenging and someone showed me the Albright and I have used it ever since. Once again, thank you for another great video, and I look forward to your future videos.

JSF 4star I really don't use an Albright knot that often, only sometimes when attaching backing to the fly line, where it works quite well. Glad you like the videos, more on knots later. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for this video (and all your videos -- they're fantastic). Is there a reason you start with the lighter line (wrapping it first), as opposed to the heavier?

love the video have probably watched it 20 times, really helped me iron out blood knots. Problem i'm seeing is after i tie a clean knot (step-by-step as per video) the tensile strength is only 2 lbs (3x tippet and 2x tapered leader)... shouldn't the knot strength be that of the tippet? (in my case 8.5 lbs)

Excellent demonstration ! It's a nice knot for freshwater, but if you're going for bigger saltwater fish and braid to fluoro, rather use the FG knot, or if that's too much for you, use the doubled over double uni knot.

AWESOME!!!! Exactly what I was looking for and these are the BEST knots for tying your line to a leader. Seems the least protrusive ones I've seen so far and well explained. Thank you for making this video, I'm off to tie a heavy leader to a braided line for hopefully some tuna to bite. I know, wishful thinking but hey, you won't catch anything unless you try, right? Have a great day.
@ML-ks2lj2 жыл бұрын
Try the fg knot I think it's the strongest at least for braid to fluorocarbon
