I love how the creators subverted the endings in the sequel, and that the "Good Ending" of this game would damn the world even worse than Kain staying in power, and that Kain was trying to protect the world with his decisions after he figured out the truth. (The canon ending is Kain chooses to rule)

42:54 I feel like Moebius wanting to get rid of vampires isn't something that needs to be explained. The tomb you wake up in has bound prisoners (who put them there anyway? Mortanius? Other vampires, since they also all seem to have bound humans in their lairs?) that the game clearly expects you to feed on, and that you literally can't free. And IIRC there are no vampires in game that don't not only view humans as livestock (which, fair, predator/prey relations etc.), but seem like they would even hesitate to drink an entire family on , or an entire school full of children. Now, clearly they fill an important ecological niche by keeping humans from overpopulating. But, if you were a human in this world, wanting to get rid of vampires would be like wanting to get rid of the plague.

Why I feel like it would be interesting to have an explanation is how Moebius acts. He doesn't act like someone who merely wants to free humankind from a pestilence. He revels in the suffering of the vampires, and seems to have a fervor that has a deeper motivation than the wellbeing of humanity. Those kinds of motivations are usually interesting to explore. We also don't really meet any other vampires than Vorador, but even he suggests a certain amount of caution and disconnection from humans, as to not provoke them too much. As much as vampires are predators, he knows that by pushing them too far their numbers would be more than enough to cause a lot of problems for vampires. So we see more of a balanced view from the vampire side.

When they're not on fire, vampires are probably room temperature! This series was controversial early on due to the IP grab but, yeah, let's not get into that. I believe the series was one of the first major works from Amy Hennig, who would later pen things like Uncharted. Ah, yes, the thing that stops a creature that just unlocked jumping up elevations into a bunch of hostiles... a waist-high boulder! Whoever thought waist-high rocks stop a 6-foot wolf from bounding over them was perhaps not sober. Oh, we're at 68 likes... I'm gonna watch this space, because I'm... a mature adult, yes. Is it me, or is there a possible connection of theme between the Pillars of Nosgoth and the Shrines in Ultima? They affect the world and the people and when corrupted, and so on. I wonder if some of these narrative choices were made in response to such prominent CRPG fantasy.

It's very likely Ultima influenced LoK as well, after all this series began when Ultima was still very much on every PC gamer's radar.

I have a small question. As soon the guardian of the pillar dies, another is born/assigned, so even if Kain kills a guardian, next already corrupted guardian is born/assigned, even if he is restoring the pillars almost immediately, by flying to the pillar in bat form, corrupted guardian of the pillar is already somewhere in Nosgoth, so all his actions cannot undo the corruption.

Which is why he has to start with Nupraptor who is the source of the corruption. With the source gone, new guardians can be assigned without being influenced by his madness.

@@finntrovertActually it is that no new guardians can be called until the pillars collectively have been restored. The only reason why Ariel was replaced by Kain is that the Pillars became corrupted when Nupraptor found Ariel's body and went mad, by this point Kain is already being born as her replacement. Until Kain as the last corrupted guardian is slain for good no new guardians will be called. (Whether the pillars _can_ recover from exploding is another matter however)
