Wow, learning something new today. As the colder weather brings me more inside time, out comes the microscope. I have learned much from your videos. Inspired enough to acquire a microscope and see what is living around my neighborhood streams and ponds. You have exposed a whole different world hiding in plain site. Thanks for sharing.

Interestingly this sample has shown very low population of immune cells. Particularly Eosinophils do not appear to be in the sample despite the blood sample is swarm with Trypanosoma. Thanks for sharing this wonderful example.

If that’s the natural load of parasites in an infected person’s blood it’s both Incredible and horrifying.

Question for Microbehunter: When you view matter at the cellular level using a compound microscope, does everything look the same i.e. does everything appear like lots of sphere-like structures? Or are you able to differentiate between, say for example, residue left by adhesive and traces of battery acid?
@Microbehunter
@Microbehunter 2 жыл бұрын
No, not everything looks the same (sphere-like/cell like). This was one of the discoveries, that only living things have cells. But you can not always determine from the shape what it it. So if you look at adhesive traces or battery acid, then you can see that it is not made of cells, but by looking at it alone, you can not identify it (eg. determine what it is). For that you need further analysis, eg. chemical analysis. Only at an atomic level would it start to look similar (everything made of atoms), bu light microscopes are not able to show this.

@@Microbehunter Thanks for the response. If you were to take a piece of undeveloped photographic film e.g. a negative, placed it under a compound microscope and took a picture of the surface and you then deposited battery acid onto the film and then placed it back under the microscope and took another picture after the acid had dried for comparison purposes - could you identify or draw any conclusions as to what the battery acid might look like on photographic film? Sorry about the long question.
@Microbehunter
@Microbehunter 2 жыл бұрын
The battery acid would do a chemical reaction with the film (assuming that they react) and then you would be able to see what effect the acid had on the emulsion on the film. But the film would not capture an image of the molecular strucute or the composition of the acid. As an analogy, if I put ink on paper, then I can see the effect of the ink on the paper (it becomes blue) but this does not allow for conclusions on the molecular structure of the ink.
@richardgray131185
@richardgray131185 2 жыл бұрын
@@Microbehunter Very interesting. Perhaps the deposited acid (post chemical reaction) would have a unique effect on the film that might allow me to draw some conclusions about what effect acid has on film but not necessarily allow me to identify the molecular make-up of the acid itself, as you mentioned? I guess being able to identify what effect the acid has on the film would be just as helpful to me as being able to identify the acid itself. Although being able to do both would be very useful. I am considering investing in a high-end compound microscope but I want to try and be sure that the device can help me with my objectives before I buy as these are quite expensive.

On the subject of cell counting, would it be possible to demonstrate a glass hemocytometer slide? I bought one when I had chemotherapy years ago and thought it was fun to see how accurately I could count my own white blood cells under my microscope and compare it with actual lab counts. It was way off, I don't know if something was wrong with the staining or with my way of counting. I guess such a hemocytometer could be useful to count other stuff like different types of cells in water.

Wow! That trypanosoma is scary! While most strains are decimated by complement cascades, (according to one paper), some strains are resistant (but not immune). If there ever is a trypanosoma strain that is immune to liver complement cascade, then we may have a crisis.

HI Oliver how are you did you ever try fruits under microscope. Also I have a video idea why don't you compare a inductory microscope (you choose any one but I would prefer sw150) And compare it with other microscope in similar categories You maybe choose a sample like parasites or bacterial feeding you choose you may add touches but anyhow if you don't like the idea it is ok Thanks I don't know why but microscopy came back to me.

By going to the doctor to get a diagnosis and then getting it treated with the correct medication. The medication depends on the type of pathogen.

Hi microbehunter I was wondering if there was any way in which I could check the growth of microorganisms on surfaces like doors or walls without culturing the bacteria (Without using agar)
@Microbehunter
@Microbehunter 2 жыл бұрын
They will not grow (as in reproducing) much on the doors and walls because of lack of nutrients (unles there is a fungus etc in the wall), but they can still be found there. If you see mold growing on the wall, then you do not even need a microscope to know that.... Otherwise the concentration is too low. If you collect material using a cotton swab and put it under the microscope, then the concentration of dust/dirt/plaster from the wall etc will be much higher and it will be impossible to find them. The question is rather, what do you want to look for specifically? If bacteria are present at all? Then this answer is yes. OR the type? Then this can not be answered using microscopy (biochemical/genetic tests necessary).

do you have to dye the slide or can u see them in just straight blood smears?

Hello my friend I just received my microscope yw500 camera, this afternoon ... Nice .. What I wasn't aware of, is that it didn't come with a reduction lens .... now a 2 week wait, until one is ordered and arrives ... BUGGER ... The available software, only allows control over Brightness and Contrast ... no option of colour or B/W .Maybe an opportunity to create another KZbin video or short ? Kind regards Alex

Hy microbehunter,I am from india and I am interested in microbiology and astronomy.for a specimen i collected some algae from a small i metre pond in my school and put it under the microscope.it full of interesting life rotifer, nematodes, aeolosoma etc.and one of them i found a worm the colour is reddish and it's body is similar to aeolosoma but the head of it is like a hand.it can be seen with the the naked eye it is about 1cm long and 0.7mm. I am very young .10 years old and my favourite KZbin channel is microbehunter.how can I share the image of it with you?
